Matthijs van Nieuwkerk started with De wereld draait door (The World turns Around),
a huge hit that airs every day in the week, except for Saturday and Sunday. The programme received the 2007 Gouden Televizierring, the Dutch equivalent of the Emmy Awards,
for best programme. Leo Blokhuis, a music expert, and Van Nieuwkerk make the Popquiz and Top 2000 a Go-Go every year. He was nominated for the Zilveren Televizier-ster for best show host in 2006 and 2007, but didn’t win on either occasion. Matthijs gives away 1 minute to upcoming, unsigned artists from the Netherlands.
