Sonic Youth, The Kills to appear on Elijah Wood charity album. Sonic Youth, The Kills and Black Mountain are just some of the artists that have donated tracks to Elijah Wood’s charity compilation. The album will be called ‘Elysium: A Benefit For The Art of Elysium’ and will raise money for, you guessed it, The Art of Elysium, which is a charity that encourages working actors, artists and musicians to dedicate their time and talent to children battling serious medical conditions. Elijah Wood has musical cred, having signed Apples In Stereo to his Simian Records label. It looks like he was in fine musical form with the song selections here though. The full track listing is:

London’s industry youth and new music supporters Red Stripe unite for new Camden club night. For over 80 years Red Stripe Lager has embodied the long, rich history of Jamaica, its music and DIY culture. Over the last three-and-a-half decades, the beer has become inherent with good music and a spirit of youthful rebellion. Its association with music was cemented in the UK in the late seventies, by the emergence of reggae, punk and ska. Club ‘Stripe’ is an extension of this and opens its doors to all that challenges, thrills and borders on the next big thing. Club ‘Stripe’ will be booked and promoted by Alex Lee Thomson of Rockfeedback and Orbit PR (Secret Garden Party, Orbital, Spiritualized) with Rhiannon Price and Olivia Morrell of Girls In Green Shoes (Blissfields Festival, Life In Film, Barefoot Confessor).
The goal will be to create a club night that offers not only a three-band-bill but an event thick in atmosphere and comparable to the festivals which united ALT and GIGS with Red Stripe; in keeping with current trends to evolve the standard club night within London. The night will be focused on supporting new and cutting edge music, using support slots creatively to promote new and emerging acts, integrating online / digital marketing and virals with a full PR campaign to maximise exposure around London. A number of surprises for ticket holders will unfold encouraging anything from the occasional dance-off to a legend lookalike battle, with new music remaining central to what club ‘Stripe’ is about; a spirit of creative independence. Red Stripe Dingwalls (500 paying capacity) has been central to the Camden music scene since 1973. Having hosted bands such as Foo Fighters and White Stripes to White Denim and Young Knives, Dingwalls promoter David Messer is confident that Stripe @ Dingwalls, under the direction of ALT and GIGS, will offer sell out and newsworthy nights for its 2009 launching events. Club ‘Stripe’ will run to other established music venues outside London in 2010.
Currently booking acts until the end of 2009, club ‘Stripe’ will be launched in June by ALT/GIGS. Available dates for booking include: Thurs 25th June, Thurs 27th Aug and Thurs 29th Oct. Budgets can be discussed directly with GIGS.
