Michael J. Fox to receive lifetime achievement award in Berlin
Michael J. Fox will be honored with the Golden Camera International Lifetime Achievement Award. The ‘Back to the Future” star, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 1991, will receive the award at a ceremony in Germany on Saturday.
The German listings magazine Horzu in Berlin, which hosts the yearly event, will honor Fox for his acting career and for his work in the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, an organization he founded in 2000.
“Michael J. Fox was always able to make a special contribution to his movie roles using his youthful appearance, boyish charm and humor, a representative for the magazine said in a statement. “With this award, however, we want to do more than pay tribute to this actor’s artistic achievements that have entertained us for decades. We want to express our great admiration for the way he continues to fight Parkinson’s disease both personally and through the work of his foundation.”
But the 49-year-old father of four with wife and actress Tracy Pollan, is showing no signs of slowing down.
Fox, who won the hearts of many for his roles as “Alex P. Keaton” on the show, “Family Ties” and Mike Flaherty in the award-winning comedy show “Spin City,” returned to television recently as a guest star on the CBS drama, “The Good Wife.”
Previous “Lifetime Achievement Award” winners include Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson.
John Travolta will also be at hand Saturday to receive the Golden Camera prize which is presented to the best international actor in recognition of his “many-sided talents”.
