DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2009
Posted in: fashion by newsdesk on June 7, 2024
From 12 Jun 2024 - 14 Jun 2024 The UK’s biggest, loudest, distortion-fuelled rock and metal festival returns to Donington Park for three more days of hard and heavy axe-wielding action. With a taste for the biggest and most influential names in the heavy rock scene, Download Festival has attracted sets from KISS, Metallica, Guns ‘N Roses, Iron Maiden and The Prodigy in recent years and fans can expect more big names this time around. The site underwent a revamp last year and it now houses two outdoor stages and a tent as well as an extreme sports bar, five-a-side football pitch, market, merchandise stands and chill-out area Kidney Woods. Download 2009 will offer bespoke camping over the weekend. AGreenerFestival say this about the festival: Download won the ‘most improved’ festival in the 2007 Greener Festival Awards and organisers Live Nation built on this in 2008 with travel planning and carbon offsetting offered to the audience. A new artist briefing booklet that explained the festival’s environmental work was given to performers who were encouraged to improve their own carbon footprint with handy hints and tips. The deposit system for recycling introduced in 2007 was continued and audience recycling in the campsite was encouraged and further promoted.

ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 2009
Posted in: festivals by newsdesk on June 7, 2024
From 11 Jun 2024 - 14 Jun 2024
Top rock and indie names, legendary acts, and rising stars, on a large main stage or the smaller tented stage in a relaxed festival atmosphere. The dates for the eighth Isle of Wight festival are confirmed as from Friday 12th until Sunday 14th June 2009. The confirmed acts for 2009 include The Prodigy who headline on Friday, with Stereophonics, and Razorlight confirmed as joint Saturday headliners, and Neil Young headlining the Sunday. Basement Jaxx, Pendulum, Maximo Park, White Lies, The View, The Rifles, Pixies, Simple Minds, The Pigeon Detectives, and The Script are just some of the names confirmed to appear on the main stage. Tim Burgess of The Charlatans curates the Sunday of this year’s Big Top, and will headline it on the same day, as well as a full line-up there’s DJ sets from Tim Burgess, Rhys Webb, and The She Set. Also appearing there on the Saturday will be Australian Pink Floyd, Calvin Harris, McFly, Mercury Rev, Ultravox, and more. Friday is Ladies night with Bananarama, Ladyhawke, Alesha Dixon, and The Noisettes. For campers The Human League lead the entertainment on the Thursday night. For the line-up details, day splits, and rumours as available. Tickets are priced at £140 for an adult ticket with camping which includes entertainment in the campsite on Thursday night, and £70 for a child ticket (12 years and under). The price of an adult ticket without camping is £120 and £60 for children (12 years and under). Every person attending the festival must purchase a ticket. This includes babes in arms.
The original Isle Of Wight Festival will forever be etched in musical history after it housed Jimi Hendrix’s last ever performance, attracted the largest ever UK festival crowd and led to any future festivals being banned from the island after nearly half a million hippies turned the 1970 site into a chaotic free-for-all. However, since it was re-ignited in 2002, the festival has forged a new identity that differs from its predecessors. Big names like The Rolling Stones and The Police honour the spirits of greats like Dylan and The Doors as some 60,000 fans annually cross the Solent for the three-day bash. With one main stage and a big top the festival is predominantly about the music and a varied line-up means there is often something for everyone with The Cribs, Amy Winehouse and Sugababes performing recently. Onsite there is a funfair as well as a selection of food and drink stalls. Camping is available from the Thursday
Pendulum live DVD
Posted in: Releases by newsdesk on May 22, 2024
One of the defining highlights of last summer’s festival circuit, Pendulum completed 2008 with a sold-out tour that saw them play to a combined audience of over 50,000 people. Now Pendulum can confirm the June 15th release of their ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ DVD that offers an irresistible monument for fans eager to relive the glorious chaos of the Pendulum live experience. Recorded at Brixton Academy on December 4th and 5th 2008, the DVD highlights a full live set directed by Paul Caslin. Caslin was recently nominated for a Grammy in the Long Form Music Video category for his work on Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ DVD release. An added feature in the shape of an eighty minute audio CD of the Brixton gigs makes for an essential purchase for Pendulum’s devoted and ever growing fan base. ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ features scintillating performances of Pendulum’s biggest hits and killer tracks to date including ‘Showdown’, ‘Propane Nightmares’, ‘Granite’, ‘Slam’ and ‘Another Planet’. The DVD also features Pendulum’s explosive interpretation of The Prodigy’s 1994 cult hit ‘Voodoo People’ and their incendiary take on the Metallica classic ‘Master of Puppets’. Aside from the standard DVD / CD release, ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ will be also be available as a single DVD / deluxe double CD package that will be sold exclusively through www.pendulum.com as well as an iTunes exclusive format. Further details of both the deluxe version and the iTunes format of ‘Live At Brixton’ will be announced imminently. In the UK, Pendulum’s ‘In Silico’ album debuted at #2 in the album charts, has since reached double Gold status and is fast approaching Platinum. Their single ‘Propane Nightmares’ hit the Top 10 and was nominated for a Kerrang! Award for Best Single. Backed by a number of the summer’s most memorable festival appearances, including Creamfields, Download, Reading / Leeds and T in the Park, Pendulum have become a vital live act – aptly demonstrated by how their gigs have continually moved onto bigger venues on each successive tour. Continuing support from Radio 1 included a special Pendulum documentary that ran over Christmas. Pendulum are also repeating their phenomenal success on the other side of the Atlantic. Appearances on Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel relived the growing demand for their live shows created by the contagious reaction to their headline tours and a set at last year’s Coachella. They were also the hot name at this year’s Miami’s Ultra Music Festival where they headlined alongside The Prodigy and Bloc Party. Now Pendulum are set to be the band of the summer. Having proven to be too big for the tents at last summer’s festivals as huge audiences flocked to catch them in action, Pendulum have been elevated to the main stage for this year’s dates at Download (where they’re due to play ahead of Marilyn Manson), V, T In The Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen. Growing demand for the band has been rewarded with the confirmation that they will headline their first major UK festival at Global Gathering in July.
