Critically acclaimed electronic duo The Chemical Brothers have teamed up with film director Joe Wright to score Wright’s boldly original adventure thriller Hanna, which stars Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, and Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett. The soundtrack will be released exclusively through iTunes on March 15th, in advance of the film’s April 8th nationwide theatrical release through Focus Features. From the haunting “Hanna’s Theme,” written for the 16-year-old title character, to the carnival-esque track “The Devil Is In the Details” and the tension-filled “Container Park,” The Chemical Brothers deliver 20 tracks that mirror the ever-changing moods and environments that Hanna (played by Ronan) experiences in her dangerous journey as she is pursued across Europe. Of the original score, Moviefone raves “Trust us when we say they deliver something really special with this one, topping (in our opinion) the much-buzzed-about Daft Punk TRON: Legacy score… as well as Trent Reznor’s [Oscar-winning] score for The Social Network. Oh yes, we just went there.”

Beck’s takes its ongoing collaboration with cutting edge artists to a new level this year as Ladyhawke and Hard-Fi are invited to redesign the iconic Beck’s label. Beck’s has a heritage in art dating back more than 20 years, championing the artists of tomorrow and giving support to new creativity in the boldest way possible, handing over the aesthetic control of the brand label. Others to work on Beck’s labels in the past include Gilbert & George, Sam Taylor-Wood and Tatsuo Miyajima. Titled ‘Music Inspires Art’ the project will see two designs from the music artists appear on Beck’s bottles, launching in late summer. At this stage only early concept drawings have been released, but these indicate that the new Beck’s Art Labels are set to be as raw, creative and thought provoking as previous art labels. Hard-Fi are known for their iconic album art and have been inspired by the their own covers to create something for the Beck’s label and Ladyhawke has taken inspiration from her own music, a song called Magic. To mark the occasion we’ve formulated together a list of evolution related songs that no doubt Mr Darwin would be listening to on his iPod if he was kicking around today.
See below our list of Charles Darwin evolution songs and a selection of related music videos.
To mark what would have been legendary British naturalist Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday this week (February 12), I present a collection of songs to mark the occasion!
Darwin also published his seminal book ‘On The Original of Species’ 150 years ago this year, so I’ve come up with as many (loosely) evolution-related songs as possible. If you can think of any more, post them below.
David Bowie: ‘Changes’ – Nice and succinct, Bowie sums up evolution perfectly
Pearl Jam: ‘Do The Evolution’
Bruce Springsteen: ‘Part Man, Part Monkey’
Ian Brown: ‘Dolphins Were Monkeys’ – A bit skewed, but we’ll let Ian off, he has smoked a lot of weed in his time.
Napalm Death: ‘De-Evolution Ad Nauseum’
Destiny’s Child: ‘I’m A Survivor’ – Sums up natural selection nicely. We’re not sure the ultra-religious Beyonce would be happy about being on this list though!
Michael Jackson: ‘Earth Song’
Cher: ‘If I Could Turn Back In Time’
R.E.M: ‘Losing My Religion’ – Exactly what Darwin was no doubt feeling while writing is theory!
The Chemical Brothers: ‘It Began In Africa’ – It is where man is believed to have first evolved after all.
Fatboy Slim: ‘Right Here, Right Now’ – For that famous evolution video
Artichoke: ‘Charles Robert Darwin’ – Says all you need to know!
Elvis Costello: ‘Monkey To Man’
Louis Prima & Phil Harris: ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ – The tune the orangutans sing to Mowgli on The Jungle Book movie
New York Dolls: ‘Dance Like A Monkey’
The Bee Gees: ‘Evolution’
Motorhead: ‘Line In The Sand’ – Comes complete with the line “Evolution is a mystery, full of changes that no-one sees.”
Amy Winehouse: ‘Monkey Man’
Buckethead: ‘Future Evolution’
Bob Dylan: ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’
Genomic Dub Collective: ‘Natural Selection’
Godiego: ‘Monkey Magic’

We’ve also set up a spotify playlist in honour of Charles Darwin, which you can listen to here
