Texas went on hiatus because they wanted to “give the public a bit of a rest” from their sound.
The ‘I Don’t Want a Lover’ group took time out between 2008 and this year because they felt it would help them get their “edge” back.
Lead singer Sharleen Spiteri said: “We decided to take time out and give Texas a bit of a rest and also give the public a bit of a rest from us.
“It’s weird, you become successful and you spend so long touring and making records that you can end up on autopilot and we wanted to get our edge back.”
Sharleen used the time away from the band to launch her solo career, writing what she considers to be the most personal songs of her career.
She added to the Yorkshire Post newspaper: “It was something I needed to do and shake out of my system. When I started writing, I thought it was going to be another Texas record but the songs were really personal, they were too open and raw for Texas, so I realised it had to be a solo album.”
While they may have taken a break, the band – which also includes Ally McErlaine, Eddie Campbell, Johnny McElhone, Michael Bannister, Neil Payne and Tony McGovern – have always remained close to each other.
Sharleen said: “We all grew up together, we were 17 and 18 when we started out, there’s been boyfriends and girlfriends, marriages, children, divorce, we’ve been through everything.
“We’ve always seen each other even when we’ve not been playing. We’re not one of those bands that goes on tour and everyone says, `hi, what you been up to?’ We’re part of each others’ lives and families.”
Texas are playing dates across Europe this summer.
Dinosaur Pile-Up have been added to the line-up of this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, and will perform as part of the official British Music Embassy showcase on Saturday, March 19.
The showcase will form part of a handful of shows and parties the band will perform at during SXSW next month, before heading to Mexico for their first South American dates, where they have been invited to perform at the eighth birthday concert celebrations of Mexico City radio station, Ibero90.9FM.
The announcement comes as the Leeds trio prepare to hit the road across the UK for the Rock Sound Exposure Tour with Japanese Voyeurs and The Xcerts. These dates will accompany the release of their second commercial single, My Rock N Roll, out in March.
My Rock N Roll, the second single from their critically acclaimed debut album Growing Pains, will be released on March 14. It follows the singles Mona Lisa, and introductory track Birds And Planes, both of which were added to the Radio One In New Music We Trust playlist.
Dinosaur Pile-Up’s debut album, Growing Pains, was released in October and recently nominated for the Xfm New Music Award, alongside releases by Everything Everything, Hurts, Delphic and Marina And the Diamonds among others.

Heartwarming Comedy “$5 A Day” Comes To Blu-Ray, DVD. Image Entertainment presents a heartwarming comedy about a father and son struggling with the cost of rebuilding their relationship. “$5 A Day” features an award-winning cast led by Christopher Walken. Nigel Cole directed the 2008 film starring Walken as Nat, an eccentric conman who although content with a life of schemes and underhanded deals, he desires to reconcile with his son Ritchie (Alessandro Nivola), who stopped trusting his father a long time ago. But Nat doesn’t have much time left. After being diagnosed with a terminal illness, he cons Flynn into joining him in a cross country journey to an experimental medical facility. The two realize that to reach their destination, they can only spend no more than $5 a day. To make matters worse Ritchie has obstacles of his own, including an imminent divorce from his wife Maggie (Amanda Peet), and being fired from his job as a Health Inspector. Needless to say, he was also recently released from jail. Growing up with Nat, the troublesome Ritchie inherited some of his unique ways of dealing with situations. Ritchie accepts his father’s offer against his will, and they travel by car from New Jersey to New Mexico, making stops in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Along the way, as expected, many things happen – some hilarious -, which make Ritchie learn more about his father. Along the way, too, they visit Dolores Jones (Sharon Stone), who happened to be Ritchie’s babysitter, and with whom Ritchie had a crush as a kid. Their journey is laden with emotions as well as ridiculous schemes to keep within their budget. Its DVD and Blu-ray are now available at an SRP of $27.98 for the DVD and $29.98 for the Blu-ray.

Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Hanson’s next album won’t come out until spring 2010, but that’s not keeping the sibling “MmmBop” trio from playing a bunch of new music for its fans on its current fall tour. “We’ve tried since we started to not go more than a year without throwing something new to the fans,” said singer-keyboardist Taylor Hanson, 26. “So this (tour) is kind of a warm-up to the new record and … just being a touring band and staying active.” Hanson said the new album, the group’s third for its own 3CG label, is finished but untitled at the moment. Recorded mostly at Sonic Ranch in Torrillo, Texas, Continue reading →

The 27-year-old oil rig worker from Jasper, Texas, made his final plea by belting out “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” but it just wasn’t slick enough for the judges to overrule the votes of viewers. Sarver was also in the bottom two last week, and put on a consensus weak performance in Wednesday night’s performance round. Even sugary-sweet Paula Abdul chimed in, comparing the 27-year-old oil rig worker from Jasper, Texas, to an old-school Vegas lounge act. His unrefined reprisal of the Temptations classic didn’t appear to tempt the judges to spend their one-time save of a low-vote getter. The four got their heads together for a moment, then Simon Cowell told the married father of two children: “Michael, you’re going home. Sorry.” Matt Giraud, 23, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was the other bottom vote-getter, despite the judges’ positive appraisal of his “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye. Stevie Wonder kept the Motown mojo of this week’s show going by singing a medley of his songs, energizing both the contestants — who were dancing and grooving along — and audience. The nine contestants who remain on the Fox network’s singing competition are Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Corkrey and Scott MacIntyre.
Fox pushed this week’s “American Idol” broadcasts back a day to steer clear of President Obama’s prime-time news conference on Tuesday night.
