Sophia Bush Boycotts Urban Outfitters Because Of “Eat Less” Shirt. Urban Outfitters courted plenty of controversy when it put a skinny v-neck tee for sale on its website that read “Eat Less.” Being worn by an ultra-thin model, the retailer was snubbed by media and shoppers for its seemingly pro-anorexia message. Now it has a celebrity detractor in “One Tree Hill” star Sophia Bush, who says she’ll no longer shop at their stores unless they apologize.
Bush took to her blog to spill her feelings on the tee, which was pulled from being sold online at the Urban Outfitters website last month but was reportedly still available in stores. Bush plays fashion designer Brooke Davis on the hit CW show “One Tree Hill.” Her character started a campaign on the show named “Zero is Not a Size,” which inspired women from all over the world with body image issues to reach out to Bush and the show to thank them. Bush feels Urban Outfitters is doing the exact opposite with its divisive message. “To promote starvation? To promote anorexia, which leads to heart disease, bone density loss, and a slew of other health problems, not least of all psychological issues that NEVER go away? Shame on you,” Bush wrote on her blog. “I will no longer be shopping at your stores. And I will encourage the tens of thousands of female supporters I have to do the same,” she said. Bush also adds that the company should have issued a public apology and make a donation to an organization which supports women with eating disorders. “I am sickened that anyone, on any board, in your gigantic company would have voted ‘yes’ on such a thing, let alone enough of you to manufacture an item with such a hurtful message,” she said. “It’s like handing a suicidal person a loaded gun. You should know better.”
