SOAPnet Reaches 75 Million In Viewers
SOAPnet Reaches 75 Million In Viewers, Renews “Being Erica”. SOAPnet is getting a little more strange. The soap opera-centric cable network has announced plans for a third season of the original scripted series “Being Erica.” Showing along the likes of “All My Children,” “The Young and the Restless” and more melodramatic fare, the series follows Erica Strange, a beautiful woman confronting her past life in a very mystical way, through the use of a therapist who possesses the ability of time travel, enabling Erica the opportunity to literally revisit her mistakes and learn from them. The announcement was made via press release by Brian Frons, the president of Daytime through the Disney/ABC Television Group. “‘Being Erica’ is a series that won the hearts of our audience and also brought new viewers to SOAPnet,” Frons said. “As the network continues to grow, we look forward to following Erica on her endearing journey of self discovery.” The BBC Worldwide and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation-produced series’ third season will feature a theme of transformation, as Erica (Erin Karpluk) and Dr. Tom (Michael Riley) work to make her a more responsible and confident person despite the loss of her job and boyfriend and the need to make a difficult choice. Production on the show is scheduled to begin May 17 in Toronto. The episodes will air in early 2011. Receiving 1.5 million viewers during its first season and more than 3 million in the second season, “Being Erica” is just one of SOAPnet’s draws. Since its inception 10 years ago, the network has reached an overall viewership of more than 75 million viewers, according to a recent Nielsen Company survey.
