Prime-time shows get last laugh on Leno

Posted in: tv by newsdesk on December 1, 2024

There they sit with “The Jay Leno Show,” TV’s equivalent of that famous “Dewey Defeats Truman” headline, having called time of death on scripted drama and indeed traditional network television while all around them great new shows are popping up like the plague victim in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” “I’m not dead,” says ABC with its new comedy lineup; “I’m getting better,” says CBS with “The Good Wife” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” “I think I’ll go for a walk,” adds Fox with (Read more…)

Some people feel reality TV contestants allow themselves to be over-exposed. But not usually this over-exposed. A female auditioner on Tuesday night’s episode of “So You Think You Can Dance” was so elated when judge Little C told her she was going to Vegas, she rolled around on the floor. Only it appears she wasn’t wearing any underwear. In a slow-motion video grab posted on (Read more…)

A little more than a month after Paula Abdul tendered her high-profile Twitter resignation as a judge on “American Idol,” Fox announced Wednesday that she was being replaced by one of the show’s biggest fans, comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres. The network’s five-year deal with DeGeneres puts to rest a major challenge facing Fox as the aging singing competition enters its ninth season in January: filling the shoes of the judge considered by many to be the heart of the show. DeGeneres, who has hosted the Oscars and the Emmys and was recently a guest judge on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” broke the news to her audience during a taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on (Read more…)

Emmy nominations 2009 list

Posted in: News of the day by newsdesk on July 17, 2024

Today the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences released the Emmy nominations 2009 list. Though most prefer to see the nominees for Best Drama, Best Comedy, and Lead Actor and Actresses, the actual Emmy Nomination 2009 list (read the the full list below) is rather lengthy.tegories such as best costume, best makeup, best technical design, or sound editor might not be the first to come to mind when thinking about the Emmy awards, but these categories are just as important.

This year’s Emmy nomination list features some highlights. Big Love features one nomination this year, while the AMC feature, Breaking Bad has a total of five. Damages, boasts seven nominations, while Showtime’s series, Dexter has three. House has three nominations and has three previous wins under its belt. Lost has an astounding thirty-nine past nominations with eight previous wins. This year it has been nominated five times. Mad Men won Outstanding Drama Series in 2008 and has a whopping 16 nominations for 2009.

Glenn Close has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series making this her twelfth Emmy nomination; she has two previous wins. Also nominated is Sally Field for the ABC drama, Brothers & Sisters. This marks Sally’s ninth nomination; she has three previous wins. Law & Order (Read more…)

Tonight, ten become eight as two more dancers are sent home-with no opportunity for the judges to save them. Tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance opens with a group dance to Janet Jackson’s So Much Betta. I didn’t catch who choreographed it, but it was awesome. Cat lets us know that Mia, Tabitha and Napoleon, Tyce and Dmitry were nominated for Emmys. In case anyone is interested:
Bleeding Love • Tabitha D’umo and Napoleon D’umo (Danced by Chelsie and Mark)
Mercy • Mia Michaels, (Danced by Katee and Twitch)
Adam and Eve / Silence • Tyce Diorio (Danced by Jessica and Will)
A Los Amigos • Dmitry Chaplin (Danced by Chelsie and Joshua)
I’m surprised Tabitha and Napoleon’s No Air routine (danced by Katee and Joshua) didn’t get nominated, but I loved Bleeding Love too! ryone! We get recaps from last night before we officially get down to business.
RESULTS:
Top Five Girls:
Janette: SAFE!
Randi: Bottom 2.
Jeanine: SAFE!
Kayla: SAFE!
Melissa: Bottom 2

We get some season six previews and I’ve got to say, I see some potential top twenty dancers already!

RESULTS:

Top Five Guys:
Jason: SAFE!
Evan: SAFE!
Kupono: Bottom 2
Ade: Bottom 2
Brandon: SAFE!

Next week’s guest include Ellen DeGeneres and some past dancers. Since this week the solos are to give everyone one last chance to dance and not to save them, I won’t get into them too much, except that there is no way Melissa or Ade belonged in the bottom tonight. (Not that Randi and Kupono did, but the other two really brought their A-game tonight) The Black Eyed Peas perform while the judges deliberate and to be honest, as much as I love them, I wish these shows would bring lesser known bands or older ones-I’d love someone to bring Fleetwood Mac or have a boy band reunion just for the fun of it. It would be a cool change of pace and probably bring back lots of cool memories for people.

RESULTS!
Randi and Kupono are going home. They are given hugs, kisses and montages before they have to say goodbye. Best of luck to them.Tune in next week for more dancing, cool guests and eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance. Goodnight!

Posted in: Contests by newsdesk on July 10, 2024

Two more dancers got the axe on ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ narrowly missing a coveted spot in the Top 10. But Caitlin Kinney and Phillip Chbeeb got some good news from head judge Nigel Lythgoe — despite missing the cut, they’ll still go on tour this summer with the Top 10. Next week, all contestants will get new partners, including Caitlin and Phillip’s, Jason Glover and Jeanine Mason. The other couple in danger, for the first time, were Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi. Also on the results show: • Top 12 group dance: Hip-hop number choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha to ‘Seven Nation Army’ by the White Stripes • Musical guest: Kelly Rowland, ‘When Love Takes Over’
