With a jaw-dropping “Glitter in the Air” performance at the Grammys early in the year, Pink kept up her high-flying stunts during her overseas Funhouse Summer Carnival tour which made her the only female artist selling out stadiums this year.

8. Pretty Reckless

However you see her, foul-mouthed brat or teenage provocateur Taylor Momsen, who flashed her 17-year-old breasts to the audience during a Pretty Reckless show earlier this year, has made her and her band seem like Courtney Love Jr. and Hole-lite.

7. Adam Lambert

The “American Idol” almost-winner set out on his first headlining tour this year, giving fans all the glitter, glam, and throaty wailing they could hope for.

6. Paramore

The Hayley Williams-fronted rockers set out on a headlining tour in support of last year’s “Brand New Eyes,” which included plenty of cell phone-lit renditions of their hit “The Only Exception.”

5. Rihanna

Before she was the “Only Girl (In the World),” Rihanna was on her “Last Girl on Earth” tour, performing hits off last year’s “Rated R” and her mega-hit “Umbrella.”

4. The Black Eyed Peas

Though it was their “E.N.D.” tour, the Black Eyed Peas showed absolutely no signs of slowing down this year. They spent nearly the entire year selling out arenas worldwide while performing their latest #1 hits, including “Imma Be” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

3. Shakira

The Colombian pop princess earned one of the biggest international hits this year with the World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (Time For Africa)” and one of its biggest tours, in support of her latest album “Sale El Sol.”

2. Robyn

Robyn released one of the most acclaimed albums of the year with “Body Talk” and her North American outings this year, where she performed singles like “Dancing On My Own” and “Hang With Me” to a throng of sing-along crowds, had Billboard calling her “one of the greatest pop performers of this decade.”

1. Lady Gaga

The “Bad Romance” singer kicked off the year with one leg of her “Monster Ball Tour” and is closing out 2010 with yet another. Continuing on through 2011, the tour will finally wrap in May after 200 performances. Rihanna Debuts At #1 On First Ever Billboard Social 50 Chart. The increasing popularity of music on YouTube, Facebook, and other social network sites has spawned a brand new chart on Billboard debuting this week, the Social 50. Rihanna is the first artist to top the chart, followed closely by Justin Bieber.
Joining charts like the Billboard Hot 100, which currently factors online streaming into its rankings, the Social 50 chart tallies artist popularity using weekly song plays, artist page views, additions fans and followers, and more on sites like Facebook, Twitter, iLike, YouTube, and MySpace. Billboard will use the social music tracking service Next Big Sound. Rihanna enters at #1 on the chart’s debut week, followed by Justin Bieber at #2 and Eminem at #3. Lady Gaga is at #4, while Nicki Minaj, who just released her debut album, rounds out the top 5. “The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists that music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today’s world is a significant validation of their investment in an act,” says Billboard Chart Director, Silvio Pietroluongo. “We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music,” says Billboard Editorial Director, Bill Werde. “The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times.” “The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore,” says Next Big Sound CEO, Alex White. “We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous.” Elsewhere on the chart, which is available in full on Billboard.com, are Michael Jackson at #12, the cast of “Glee” at #25, Girl Talk at #36, and Demi Lovato at #47.
