Sixth Season Of “Weeds,” Three New Series To Premiere On Showtime. The summer season is renowned for having the biggest and most exciting movies of the year. This year, the cinema will be competing with a certain cable channel for its steady stream of viewers. The lineup for the summer schedule of premium cable network Showtime will be filled with new series, as well as new episodes of its most established shows. The new shows “The Big C,” “The Real L Word” and “The Green Room with Paul Provenza” will debut along with the season premieres of channel favorites “Weeds” and “Penn & Teller: Bullsh*t!” The summer new material will start June 10 with the eighth season premiere of famed illusionists Penn Jillette and Teller’s breakdown of social traditions, conspiracy theories and urban myths. The humor-based infotainment show hosted by Jillette and silent partner Teller is the longest-running original series for Showtime and in its latest season, the pair will tackle topics such as cheerleaders, vaccinations and teen sex. Jillette’s collaborator in “The Aristocrats,” a documentary of the world’s filthiest joke, will have his own series premiere immediately afterward in “The Green Room with Paul Provenza.” Standup comic Provenza hosts a weekly roundtable with fellow comedians in front of a studio audience. Scheduled to appear on the show are Roseanne Barr, Eddie Izzard, Sandra Bernhard, Jonathan Winters, Bob Saget and more. Premiering June 20 is a series inspired by another series. “The Real L Word” is a reality show spun off from the Showtime drama “The L Word,” following the lives of real women of the gay community. The look at California lesbians is brought out by “L Word” producer Ilene Chaiken. Faithful “Weeds” viewers will finally receive closure from season five’s abrupt cliffhanger on Aug. 16 when the sixth season of the Botwin family’s misadventures airs. But the pot-centric series won’t be the most topical of the night, with “The Big C” close behind. The new series stars Laura Linney as a woman who learns she has terminal cancer, sending her life into total chaos. The show also features Oliver Platt as her husband and “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe as her student.
