Suze Orman To Get Her OWN Show “Money Class” On Oprah’s Network. Among the people who’ll receive their OWN show on Oprah Winfrey’s new network this year, Suze Orman is set to create and host her own primetime show debuting later this year. Financial whiz Orman will star in the currently titled “Money Class,” which sees her visiting to homes of families and individuals around the country who are currently in or just getting out of some difficult financial situations. Orman will help them move out and move on from the circumstances and transform their lives with new goals and better decision-making, as only she can. “Suze Orman is the rock star of personal finance, and her straight-forward advice will help people that are in need of a financial wake-up call,” said Lisa Erspamer, the chief creative officer for OWN. “Nothing can teach you more about who you really are, than your money,” said Suze Orman in a statement. So what happens when she asks struggling families to show her the money in this economy? We won’t find out until the show premieres in Fall 2011. But in the meantime, Orman can be seen plenty on OWN on “Ask Oprah’s All Stars,” where she’s featured opposite Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil, and will also be featured in the upcoming Sarah Duchess of York reality-series “Finding Sarah.”
Oprah’s OWN To Cost Partner Discovery Upwards Of $100 Million. The cost of launching Oprah Winfrey’s U.S. TV network OWN is poised to rise well beyond the $100 million pricetag Discovery Communications set aside to launch the media mogul’s new network. Costs have continued to soar and only three quarters of the money has been spent even before its pushed back debut in 2011. Executives at Discovery Communications invested the sum in a joint venture with Winfrey to premiere the talk show queen’s new network in January 2011. The launch has been delayed twice, after previously aiming for 2009 and mid-2010. Singer adds, “We’re in the process of revising that contract. (The budget) likely will go up… The cost to launch the network, it will be higher than we had originally contemplated.” Singer declined to specify what the new anticipated total cost will be. However, Discovery is still happy with its OWN plans. The media company’s current deal has it in a 50/50 joint-venture contractual agreement with Winfrey. There’s been “good absolute volume on the ad front,” said Peter Liguori, Discovery Communications COO. “They’re effectively spending in investing in programming. As we have a little more time for launch, we’re able to have a solid library of programming, and we anticipate a very effective launch.” The network has already green lit nearly two dozen new series. Disgraced Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, is even reported to be starring in her own reality program.
