Martin Kaymer looks to rediscover swing at BMW International

Martin Kaymer’s driver let him down last week at the season’s second major, the U.S. Open. It wasn’t as if he or anyone else had a chance with Rory McIlroy running away from the field.

Kaymer hopes to find his championship form at home this week when he headlines the BMW International at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried.

“For me, it’s nice to be home for a week,” said Kaymer, who spent Tuesday with his swing coach, trying to solve the problems that his driver caused last week at Congressional. He’s been working on some changes but thought they’d kick in sooner.

“I’m not too far from playing well again,” Kaymer said. “It’s nice to play in front of my friends.”

He was the winner of this championship in 2008 but in the past two years, English golfers Nick Dougherty (2009) and David Horsey (2010) have taken the title. Last year Horsey came from five shots back to beat Ross Fisher for the title.

Along with Kaymer, Sergio Garcia will be in this week’s field as he prepares for the Open Championship next month at Royal St. George’s. Garcia played well at the U.S. Open with rounds of 69-71-69-70 for a five-under par total of 279 and a tie for seventh.

Other former champions in this week’s field include Thomas Bjorn (2000, 2002), Henrik Stenson (2006) and Niclas Fasth (2007).
