Simon Cowell, U2, Jay-Z, Lionel Richie Recording Tracks For Haiti Relief

Lionel Richie
Simon Cowell, U2, Jay-Z, and Lionel Richie are all set to record songs to benefit the victims of the Haitian earthquake. In separate projects, the music mogul, and the rock, rap, and R&B legends will be releasing charity tracks for the relief efforts in Haiti. Cowell was quoted by the Telegraph as saying at the National Television Awards on Wednesday, “We are going to do a single. I’ve got to get it together in 48 hours. I wanted to do something for Haiti and we had a request from the Prime Minister to put a record together.” He added that fellow “The X Factor” judge Cheryl Cole is on board as a performer. Irish rockers U2 and hip-hop tycoon Jay-Z already recorded their own track. They will perform their unnamed song at the George Clooney-hosted MTV telethon “Hope for Haiti” on Friday. Also, Lionel Richie is teaming up with music producer Quincy Jones to re-record the massive hit “We Are the World” for Haiti. The song was co-written by Richie and Michael Jackson and was originally recorded in 1985 by the supergroup USA for Africa. Richie and Jones are now calling on today’s artists to sing the song. Usher, Natalie Cole, and John Legend are said to be on board, with many names to be announced soon. Proceeds from the track will go to Haiti relief
