My Chemical Romance video for 'Planetary (Go!)' filmed at O2 Academy Islington
My Chemical Romance have unveiled their video for the single ‘Planetary (Go!)’ that will be released on March 28th. The track is taken from their current album ‘The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’.
The video was filmed in front of a live audience of just 600 fans who were invited the day before the show and where encouraged to wear dayglo colour to capture the full Killjoys visual theme. My Chemical Romance played a brief but scintillating set in one of the most intimate venues that they’ve played in years, before the main video shoot commenced.
“We played the short set to thank them for coming then we started making the video together,” said frontman Gerard Way. “The song is about being in a club and dancing, so we thought, ‘Let’s show people what a My Chem show kinda looks like!’ The video shoot had a real party atmosphere and was a really fun way to end our UK tour.”
My Chemical Romance singer expresses urge to collaborate with David Bowie
Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance tells Absolute Radio’s Ben Jones why he’d like to collaborate with david Bowie. BJ: If you could collaborate with any musician from history who would it be and why? We’re giving you the whole of history. GW: I know, it’s hard, dude. David Bowie. He’s awesome. BJ: Why David Bowie? I think I probably know why David Bowie.
GW: Right. I think because he’s a true artist, he’s completely always done what he wanted, he’s changed so much record to record, and I completely look up to him. I definitely think he’s a genius, I think nothing really ever seemed to get in the way of him making his art and that’s admirable.
BJ: He had this amazing way of having the image, but the image not detracting from what the music was doing. And actually he could have just been wearing brown trousers with a side parting and it would have been just as entertaining as what he was doing.
GW: I definitely think a lot about it, I do a lot of drawings. We talk about it though, everybody comes up with their own variations.
My Chemical Romance to get 'smarter' about touring
My Chemical Romance will be ‘smarter’ about touring, as they’re worried about burning out on the road. The ‘Na Na Na’ rockers said they will be taking more time off between legs of their tour in support of their album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’ because they want to be in peak form for their fans. Guitarist Ray Toro said: ‘Last time we literally went from tour to tour to tour, and it was all kind of connected into this really, really long stretch. ‘Nowadays physically we can’t do that, but also mentally too. People need a break and need to recharge the batteries. ‘ think ultimately that’s better for the fans, better for us, better for our families. So we are going to approach touring a little differently, a little smarter.’ Despite spacing their touring out, Ray assured that the band will not be cutting back the number of dates they play. He added: ‘That doesn’t mean we won’t play as many shows as we used to or hit as many countries, we just have to do it a little smarter.’ Ray also explained how the band ‘ which also includes Gerard Way, Mikey Way and Frank Iero ‘ helped get into the mindset to record their last album by looking toward the future. He added: ‘As a band we put ourselves into the mindset, of what might the radio be playing in 2019? And What might My Chemical Romance sound like in 2019? That helped us find some of the sounds that we were looking for and influenced the song structure and the arrangements. ‘ find we’re a band like that. We do need a little bit of inspiration on that side, and that’s something that we talked about and kind of formed and made bigger as the record went on.’
