‘Idol’ winner Lee DeWyze gets engaged

“Sweet Serendipity” is right. “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze just got engaged to model/actress Jonna Walsh.

DeWyze met Walsh last October when she was cast for his “Sweet Serendipity” music video. They’ve been dating ever since.

According to People, the 25-year-old singer popped the question earlier this month while watching the fireworks on a private yacht at Disney World in Orlando.

“Jonna is a Disney freak,” DeWyze told People. “They were playing love songs on the boat and I got down on my knee and asked her. I had a speech prepared but it all went out the window so I just asked her. She started crying and I said, ‘Is that a yes?’”

The singer, who just completed a tour around the country, says the wedding is currently set for fall of 2012. He also has no worries that they’ve only been dating for eight months.

“When you know, you know,” he said. “We both feel that way. We don’t need to be together 20 years before we figure it out.”

“Idol” Winner Lee DeWyze’s Album Due In November.  After winning “American Idol” last May, Lee DeWyze is set to release his debut album later this year. While it was originally scheduled for an October release, DeWyze’s major label debut will not hit stores November 16th. DeWyze is wrapping up the “American Idols LIVE! Tour” where he takes the stage every night, performing his covers of songs like U2’s “Beautiful Day” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which helped him earn the season nine crown. But the blue-eyed, 24-year-old Chicago-native has already hit New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville to write and record his upcoming effort. Set to feature about a dozen original tracks, DeWyze spoke with our source earlier this month to discuss his upcoming album. “I’ve been writing for months now,” DeWyze told our source. “Since the show was over, I got right in the studio and I’ve been writing on every song. I already got some songs done and I’m in tour mode and writing mode. It gets a little fuzzy sometimes, but I got off on the right foot.”  DeWyze cites singer-songwriters like James Morrison and Jason Mraz as influences for his upcoming album, although he hasn’t divulged any of the collaborators he’s working with. Technically, DeWyze’s upcoming album is his third. 2009’s “Slumberland” and 2007’s “So I’m Told” are both available on iTunes and feature DeWyze’s first forays into dreamy acoustic pop. “I’m not trying to make the next big hit. Essentially I just want to make music that I love and that people will love,” he said. Meanwhile, there’s no release date yet for runner-up Crystal Bowersox’s debut. It’s also expected to be due out before the end of the year.
