Jane Lynch, Kanye West Lead New Season Of “SNL”. “Saturday Night Live” is returning to NBC this week and among the guests, they’ve lined up an SNL alum, Sue Sylvester, and Kanye West. The show’s believe-it-or-not 36th season premieres September 25th and returning with it is former cast member and “Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler. Katy Perry, coming off her #1 album and singles, will be the first musical guest for the season. On October 2nd, “Breaking Bad” star and Emmy winner Bryan Cranston will host for the first time. Kanye West, who included the lyrics “F—‘SNL’ and the whole cast/Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass” in this year’s “Power,” seems to have forgiven the show’s cast and crew for whatever angered him, seeing as he’s the musical guest for that show. October 9th sees Sue Sylvester herself Jane Lynch hosting her very own episode of “SNL.” Sue’s Corner on Weekend Update? Yes, please. The show will feature Bruno Mars, who recently made news for being arrested for drug possession, as the musical guest. He’s currently topping the charts with his hit “Just the Way You Are.” Also rumored to be lined up for “SNL” throughout the rest of the month are Emma Stone and Jon Hamm. Before her recent drug test failure, “SNL” was reportedly in talks with Lindsay Lohan to host. Looks like “SNL” could be doubling this year as an outreach program.

The Black Crowe’s Chris Robinson Thinks Taylor Swift Is “Horrible”. Taylor Swift’s fans will no undoubtedly take up arms against The Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson after they learn that he has called her “horrible.” Kate Hudson’s ex-husband doesn’t think the 20-year-old country pop star is talented. The 43-year-old rocker took issue with the country sweetheart, saying she may be cute, but that’s all that she is. He told our source , “I find it embarrassing that adults are like, ‘Taylor Swift is very talented.’ She’s not. She might be cute, but she’s horrible.” Clearly, many critics don’t agree with him. Swift, who was famously interrupted by Kanye West during her Best Female Video acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs last year, has won four Grammy trophies, six American Music Awards wins, and five CMT Music Awards just to name a few. It’s not just Swift, though. Robinson also can’t stand modern musicians because he says the computers are doing all the work for them. The long-haired, beard-wearing singer said, “They have stylists who dress them, they make records with producers who play a chord into the computer and it all comes out the same… When you have computers doing it all for you… there’s no individuality. Singing isn’t always about being on key; it’s about emotionality.”

Meet THE MOOG – Hungary’s most popular alternative rock band. Formed in Budapest in 2004 by then-teenagers Tonyo Szabo (vocals), Adi Bajor (guitar) and Gergo Dorozsmai (drums), and later joined by Csaba Szabo (bass) and Miguel Gyorgy (second guitar), they’ve been compared to such modern-day chart-toppers as The Strokes and The Hives; but The Moog’s influences run deep and wide: The Beatles, David Bowie, The Sonics, The Smiths, Nirvana, Ramones, Sonic Youth, Roxy Music and Bauhaus. These and other seminal bands come to mind upon hearing their two releases: 2007’s Sold for Tomorrow, and the upcoming Razzmatazz Orfeum. Yet, THE MOOG manages to infuse their music with their own personality and heritage, and the resulting sound is brightly original, fusing together elements of 60’s garage music, goth rock, punk, and pop. Under the influence of American and British rock, they write and sing in English but their sound is distinctively Eastern European, as heard in their immediate, contagious and haunting melodies. And despite Tonyo being The Moog’s primary songwriter, the other band members have stepped up their contributions here: Gergo penning “Lost Day,” and also collaborating with Tonyo on “Self and Soul.” Additionally, new guitarist, Miguel, contributes his surf-infused picking style and blends perfectly well with the more angular guitar playing of founding member Adi. The band’s debut album, Sold for Tomorrow was mixed by the legendary Nirvana producer Jack Endino, and it turned quite a few heads, thanks to the two indie underground hit singles and videos, “I Like You” and “Everybody Wants.” Both videos were heavily played on mtvU and even made the first-round nominations for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. SPIN.com acclaimed, “The album boasts rough-around-the-edges garage pop tunes, and “Everybody Wants” is a catchy three-chord gem.” To record their sophomore release, Razzmatazz Orfeum, the group set up shop in Seattle—its climate and weather not unlike Budapest—and they worked with one of the Northwest’s most respected contemporary producers, Geoff Ott (Queens Of The Stone Age, Mark Lanegan, Pearl Jam, etc.). Razzmatazz Orfeum kicks off with the roaring “This Is Horror,” its fade-in intro delivered true to the band’s name with a swirling vintage Moog synthesizer, before leading into another off-kilter rocker, “Panic,” culminating in Tonyo vocalizing his best Cobain. Up next is the album’s first single: the wry, catchy dance/goth rocker, “You Raised A Vampire,” and the blood-letting doesn’t stop as then comes the album’s second projected single, the hook-heavy “When I See You.” The emotional pull of “Can’t Say No, Can’t Say Yes” brings to mind Ziggy-era Bowie and Syd-era Floyd; “Lost Day” possesses one of the album’s catchiest choruses, while “Joyclad Armies” shows that the band has unmistakable roots in ‘80s Euro dance-pop-rock. The album wraps up with five tracks that when played back to back show how diverse The Moog is: the mid-tempo “Sphinx” (with its tasty bass lines); the ultra-catchy early 60s/Spector-esque “Make Me Happy;” the synth centerpiece “Self and Soul,” featuring Tonyo’s surprising falsetto; the progressive goth rocker “Mina,” a tribute to Mina Harker and Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’, and ending with the piano-heavy and slow burning “Epilogue.” The record’s second single, When I See You, achieved the biggest success so far for The Moog. The video which was shot in LA’s Bob Baker puppet theater by legendary director AG Garth (White Stripes, Von Bondies, Adult) has been on regular show on MTV2’s Subterranean program as well as on the newly started MTV channel LOGO. Another great success for The Moog is that one of the standout tracks on the album, Joyclad Armies is a featured song in the latest game NBA2K10 alongside The Gossip, Metric, MGMT or Kanye West. The result is an album that stands way out from the overcrowded alt-rock pack—and the group continues to mature musically at an impressively rapid rate. The Moog will soon receive another huge boost Stateside, when they land on U.S. soil for their fourth American tour in spring of ’10.

Fox Broadcasting Company,
commonly referred to as simply Fox, is an American television network owned by Fox Entertainment Group, part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation. Launched on October 9, 1986, from 2004 to 2009 Fox was the highest-rated broadcast network in the 18–49 demographic. In the 2007–08 season, Fox became the most popular network in America in household ratings for the first time in its history, replacing CBS. CBS took back the top spot in the 2008-09 season, though Fox remains a solid runner-up. The Fox Broadcasting Company and its affiliates operate many entertainment channels internationally — including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, South America, Central America, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, and Turkey — although these do not necessarily air the same programming as the U.S. network. Most viewers in Canada have access to at least one U.S. Fox affiliate, although most of Fox’s primetime programming is subject to Canadian simultaneous substitution regulations. The network is named after sister company 20th Century Fox, and indirectly for producer William Fox, who founded one of the movie studio’s predecessors, Fox Film.

More than 75 stars — from the legendary Barbra Streisand to rapper Lil Wayne and actor Vince Vaughn — gathered at Hollywood’s Henson Recording Studios on the day before yesterday (Feb. 1) to record the 25th anniversary version of “We Are The World.” Like its predecessor, “We Are The World – 25 For Haiti” features a diverse lineup: this time ranging from Streisand and Celine Dion to actor Jeff Bridges. But it also boasts a major hip-hop contingent (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Akon, Kid Cudi, Drake), young newcomers (Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber) and major-league high technology. “This is like running through hell with gasoline underwear,” said Quincy Jones with a laugh late last night during a five-minute recording break. The video for “We Are the World – 25 For Haiti” will world premiere in 3D during NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics on Friday, Feb. 12. Academy Award-winning writer/director Paul Haggis (“Crash,” “Million Dollar Baby”) directed the video, an online version will feature green screen, allowing viewers to place themselves in the We Are the World lineup as well. Proceeds from the contemporary recording and the accompanying video will go directly to Haitian relief efforts through the We Are The World Foundation, a newly created not-for-profit organization comprised of board members Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Wyclef Jean, Paul Haggis, AEG Live president/CEO Randy Phillips and Ambassador Louis Moreno of the Inter-American Development Bank. Helping to underwrite the project was Visa.
Joining Jones in the media tent (which housed two video screens showing both looped and real-time footage of the recording) was an equally tired but ebullient Lionel Richie, who produced and co-wrote the original song with Michael Jackson. He, Jones and Jean are executive producers of the new song, with newly minted Grammy Award winner/producer RedOne and producer/musical director Ricky Minor (“American Idol”) also onboard. Richie and Jones noted that other artists beyond those on hand last night will be added to the recording. Among those will be Janet Jackson, who will sing brother Michael’s middle part in the original. Asked the reason for going with all new artists for the re-recording, Richie said, “It’s the toughest thing; you want to jump in, but then you must realize you have to pass the torch.” Richie, who sang on the original version as well, passed his torch to newcomer Beiber, who sings Richie’s part in the new song. Asked what Michael Jackson would be doing if he were alive to participate in the re-recording, Richie said, “I know it’s hard to believe, but if Michael were alive, he would be behind the scenes with us doing exactly what we’re doing: supporting everyone. I must say, the enthusiasm I’ve witnessed in there…I’ve never seen anything like it. What made it so interesting this time around is we took longer to record because we now have cell phones and Twitter. Instead of having down time where everyone is sitting around doing nothing, everybody was taking pictures of each other.” The gathered artists also broke into an impromptu version of the Bill Withers classic “Lean on Me,” sparked by Melanie Fiona’s hurting feet. “We were standing for quite a while and my feet started to hurt a bit. So I told Musiq Soulchild that I was going to lean on him. He said this isn’t ‘Lean on Me.’ Then someone else said lean on me and Celine started singing. The rest is what you saw on camera, history.”
Also making their way to the media room to share their experiences were: Jordin Sparks: “I was standing next to Rob Thomas and Lil Wayne in front of me. Then Brandy, Tyrese and Natalie Cole. Everybody is having a good time, so excited to be a part of something bigger than us. I’ve always loved Michael’s love for the world. I love the song; they’ve changed it up a little bit. It has a little more — I hate this word — but swag, I guess. But it’s going to be awesome.” Natalie Cole: “It’s a bubbly, energetic mood in there. I was standing by Kanye West and Jennifer Hudson; we were all getting numbers and autographs. But we were also in a thoughtful mood in there because of the images of Haiti on the video screens behind us in the studio. It was also very emotional because a Haitian film crew — who had just got out in time — spoke to us as well.” Celine Dion: “People are very touched to be here. Wehave to enjoy ourselves; we’re talking about music and about someone who was living through music. Michael’s fashion was to help change the world through his lyrics. Through our music, voices and talent, all of us together…you can’t just say this is terrible. Tonight we have this opportunity to make a difference.” Josh Groban: “I got Kenny Rogers’ original harmony with Paul Simon and I was happy for that. But I don’t know yet who the harmony will be with; it’s to be determined. Then they had me do a riff at the end with some bravado…that was the token classical note of the song (laughs). It’s inspired chaos. We’re all there for the same reason and it’s great to see so many legendary artists sweating it out; doing it until it’s over. Everybody left their ego at the door. To be smack dab in the middle of a sandwich between Weezy and Barbra Streisand was personally a creative experience I don’t think I’ll have the pleasure of having again. It just goes to show the mix and match of people who are here to help. I can only hope this version has the impact of the original.” Lil Wayne: “I’ve never been involved in anything like this. But coming out I feel blessed and feel like I’ve done something today. And that’s always a good day. When I got here, I was like what am I doing, will I be rapping or what? Then they told me I was doing Bob Dylan’s part and I was like, you guys are real good comedians. But I approached it the best way I knew how. Did I do a better job than Bob Dylan? Hell, no. But after I did his part, it hit me that this was something way more important than I could ever imagine. Before I go, I just want to say I think it’s amazing what’s been done for Haiti but I also think it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans. Thank you.”
Taylor Lautner’s SNL debut was a hit. The Taylor Lautner SNL episode was very popular with Twilight fans. For those that don’t know, Taylor Lautner plays Jacob in The Twilight series. Not only is Lautner one of the stars of Twilight, he’s also dating country music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift. In the opening monologue on SNL, Taylor Lautner poked at Kanye West. There was a Kanye dummy on the stage. Lautner said “I guess I could have Continue reading →
