Jamie Foxx

Jason Sudeikis named host of MTV Movie Awards.

Jason Sudeikis

“Saturday Night Live” comic Jason Sudeikis has been named the host of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. The 35-year-old “Hall Pass” star will lead the event at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California, on June 5.

He said of his new role, “I’m sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded movie awards show hosting in 2011 alive.”

MTV President Stephen Friedman added, “Smart and funny is the new rock and roll for our audience – and that combo pretty much sums up Jason. He is a smartass and a gentleman who never goes for the easy or obvious joke.”

“Because of that, he is the ideal Movie Awards host, and we are confident with him anchoring the show, our audience is in store for unexpected and crazy moments with Hollywood’s biggest stars and musicians.”

The nominees for the awards show will be based on the people’s votes at MovieAwards.MTV.com. They will be announced on Tuesday and voting will continue until June 4.

Sudeikis will be seen next in the star-studded comedy “Horrible Bosses” alongside Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell, Donald Sutherland, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Julie Bowen, and Kevin Spacey. He will also star in another ensemble cast film “Movie 43″ this year.

‘Rio’ And ‘Sucker Punch’ Hold Their Star-Studded Premieres In Today’s Tweet Dreams

Jesse Eisenberg

This week, the cast of the upcoming animated flick “Rio” held the world premiere for their movie in—wouldn’t ya know—Rio de Janeiro! Jesse Eisenberg (who voices the main character Blu) and his co-stars headed down to Brazil for all the colorful fun, including Will.i.am. who snapped pictures with his “Rio” pal Anne Hathaway (pictured) and shared with followers, “Me and ann hathaway in rio…she sings the fabulous by the way.” But they weren’t the only ones enjoying themselves, as Jamie Foxx, who also lends his voice to the movie, previously posted, “I’m canceling my life…. I’m in Brazil to stay…..”

Meanwhile, back in La La Land, the ladies of “Sucker Punch” held their premiere on Wednesday night. Everyone from Emily Browning to Vanessa Hudgens walked the red carpet, and it seems Zack Snyder’s dreamy caper is already getting raves. “Juno” writer and all-around kick-butt chick herself Diablo Cody checked out the film and gave her own unique thoughts on it from her Twitter, “Saw the amazing “Sucker Punch” last night. I have officially retitled it “Holly Madison vs. the World.”

“Valentine’s Day” Follow-Up Already In The WorksNo, it’s not April Fools’ Day.

Katherine Fugate

“Valentine’s Day” Follow-Up Already In The Works No, it’s not April Fools’ Day. The upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” could already have a sort-of sequel in the works. It’s only a sort-of sequel in that it’s not “Valentine’s Day 2,” but “New Year’s Eve.” According to Deadline Hollywood, “Valentine’s Day”-scribe Katherine Fugate just drafted “New Year’s Eve,” with producers Toby Emmerich and Richard Brener, as well as Warner Bros execs set to look it over. “New Year’s Eve” would follow the same ensemble formula, as used in “Valentine’s Day” and less so in last year’s “He’s Just Not That Into You.” Although both films feature more A-list stars than most films currently in theaters combined, the budget for both remain under $50 million. “New Year’s Eve,” which would follow characters as the clock ticks to midnight in New York, may re-enlist Garry Marshall as director and even feature some of the same actors from “Valentine’s Day.” “Valentine’s Day,” hitting theaters Friday, February 12th, stars Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Queen Latifah, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, Taylor Lautner, and Taylor Swift, among others

“Valentine’s Day” Marketers Hide Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane Gay Storyline From Advertising

Topher Grace

The trailers for “Valentine’s Day” pack a lot of scenes into them. The film has a star-studded cast of at least a dozen A-listers. But while you’ll catch glimpses of Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner kissing on the football field, Ashton Kutcher proposing to Jessica Alba, and Anne Hathaway straddling Topher Grace in bed, you won’t see any signs of a major gay storyline in the film. The heads of marketing over at Warner Bros. chose to disguise it instead.
“Hangover” star Bradley Cooper, who also stars in the upcoming macho actioner “The A-Team,” gets plenty of face time in the promos with Julia Roberts. They even share some warm looks and coy smiles. But Cooper is actually playing a gay man who has a closeted Football player boyfriend, played by “McSteamy” himself Eric Dane. But you wouldn’t know this from any of the trailers. In fact, Dane doesn’t appear in the trailers at all except for his name and photo when running through the cast list. However, you will see scenes of every other cast member in the film worth noting. “Valentine’s Day,” with its gay storyline in tact, will hit theaters on February 11th. The film also stars Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Patrick Dempsey, Emma Roberts, Shirley McLaine, and more.

Jamie Foxx has no sympathy for Polanski

Detained Academy Award-winning director and convicted sex offender Roman Polanski may have the support of some famous faces in the film industry, but don’t count Jamie Foxx among them. According to the actor, he only needs to imagine the 1977 case against Polanski is a personal one to find his feelings. “If it had been my daughter who was barely a teenager — my daughter is 15 — Continue reading →

Audrina Patridge, Seth Meyers in at MTV

MTV announced a new development slate Tuesday that includes projects from such auspices as Seth Meyers, Jamie Foxx and the son of DreamWorks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg. Additionally, the cable network has handed a pilot order to Mark Burnett’s docusoap reality project starring former “Hills” co-star Audrina Patridge. The as-yet-untitled Patridge pilot represents a potential second life for “The Hills” franchise, whose flagship series had a casting shake-up with the departure of lead Lauren Conrad. The order also continues MTV’s relationship with Burnett, who produced the network’s Movie Awards earlier this month. MTV’s new series in development include a reinvention of 1980s movie “Teen Wolf”; an animated program from Meyers called “The Awesomes,” about a superhero who battles paparazzi; “Warren the Ape,” a celebrity comeback reality show but with puppets; “Patito Feo,” based on an award-winning teen drama from Argentina; “Hard Times,” a coming-of-age comedy co-created by David Katzenberg that centers on a unpopular 15-year-old; and an untitled sketch comedy show from Foxx.

Janet Jackson, Jamie Foxx Lead Michael Jackson Tribute at BET Awards

janet-jacksonjamie-foxxRather than mourn Michael Jackson’s death, the celebrities who took to the stage at the 2009 BET awards celebrated the memory of the King of Pop with pumped-up performances, heartfelt words and a surprise appearance by the star’s own sister Janet Jackson. The Shrine Auditorium ceremony kicked off with a tribute to young Michael, as ’80′s idols New Edition dressed up in funky ’70s-era clothes to sing the Jackson 5′s “ABC” and “The Love You Save.” Host Jamie Foxx emerged wearing an outfit reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s famous “Beat It” gear: red leather jacket, cropped black pants, high white socks and black loafers. The Oscar winner then performed a dance sequence from Jackson’s video, moonwalking (and stumbling) across the stage to honor the pop superstar. “We are here for the greatest. There’s no need to be sad,” said Foxx to a star-studded audience that included Diddy, Tyra Banks and Lil Wayne. Other notable performances included Beyoncé’s costume-changing medley of “Ave Maria” and Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel,” Ciara’s take on Jackson’s “Heal the World” and Queen Latifah’s duet with Mary Mary on the gospel duo’s “God in Me.” And in keeping with the night’s positive vibe, Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean both received humanitarian awards for their charitable works. Tributes to the late star continued throughout the night, and father Joe Jackson shed a tear in the audience after Ne-Yo’s performance of the King of Pop’s “Lady in My Life.” (Jackson protégé Usher told he had hoped to make the ceremony but couldn’t get back from overseas in time; I look forward to seeing the show and I plan to work on a tribute to Michael Jackson when I return,” he said.) As the awards came to an end, Janet Jackson surprised the crowd by taking the stage to give thanks to fans for their support in the wake of her brother’s death. “My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful, so they elected me to be here,” Janet Jackson said. “I’d just like to say, to you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much.” After she left the stage, Foxx and Ne-Yo closed the show with the Jackson 5′s “I’ll Be There.” Here’s the complete list of winners from the 2009 BET Awards:

2009 BET Awards Become the Michael Jackson Tribute Show

The 2009 BET Awards were already set to be a big event, but now the BET Awards are something else entirely. The 2009 BET Awards had to be completely overhauled in three days time, as the BET Awards are now no longer about today’s performers and nominees. It is expected that the 2009 BET 2009 BET Awards Become the Michael Jackson Tribute Show Awards are about to become the Michael Jackson tribute show instead, as the BET Awards are undergoing “a total overhaul” to honor the King of Pop. The BET Awards had about 72 hours to work in as many Michael Jackson tributes as they could. As a result, more performers have been invited to the show, the BET Awards are expected to go on a half hour longer, and other performers had to completely change their act. Performers like Beyonce and Ne-Yo have already changed their performances to make them Jackson-related. Kanye West, Queen Latifah, Solja Boy, T-Pain and more announced and unannounced guests will also be in attendance. BET network chairman Debra L. Lee called the ordeal “a total overhaul.” As such, any awards and any non-Jackson performances will likely be completely overshadowed. Jamie Foxx’s hosting performance will probably also have a fair share of Jackson references, if not Jackson jokes. The 2009 BET Awards will technically still go on with the usual business of giving awards and having a lot of songs. But Michael Jackson will undoubtedly be the star of the show, no matter what. BET will be paying these tributes to Michael Jackson, as his legacy in the African-American community continues to be debated. After his death, Jackson was hailed as breaking barriers for young black singers, opening the door for MTV to feature African-American performers after “Thriller” pretty much forced them to. But the controversy over his skin changes, and the lingering notion that he sold out his “blackness” over time, made Jackson as controversial in the black community as he was everywhere else.
