Patti LaBelle’s son, Zuri Edwards, and her hairdresser, Norma Harris, have been charged with assault in the attack on West Point cadet Richard King at the Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. People from LaBelle’s entourage claim that King had been abusive but security footage shows that it was members of Patti’s party that instigated the events that led to King’s injuries (see the footage in our original story).
The Oak Ridge Boys were asked to become the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry on Friday night. The question was popped on the Opry stage by Jimmy Dickens. The formal induction will take place on August 6.

The Old Grey Whistle Test is returning to Britain but, instead of TV, it will be a series of 16 radio shows. Titled Old Grey Whistle Test 40 to celebrate the programs 40th anniversary and will begin in August on BBC Radio 2. Guests will include Elton John, Robert Plant, Paul Weller, Roger Daltrey and Mark Knopfler. “Whispering” Bob Harris will host.

Gloria Estefan made a surprise appearance at the Miami auditions for the US version of ‘The X Factor’ The ‘Dr. Beat’ singer ‘ who live in the exclusive Star Island section of Miami Beach ‘ unexpectedly arrived at the Bank United Center on Thursday (07.04.11) and gave words of encouragement to over 7,500 pop hopefuls waiting to see producers.
She told the auditionees: ‘ hope all of you have a great day and remember to go all out! You’ve got one shot – one chance, so make sure you give it your all.
“Be yourself, the only thing you can offer is originality to the world. There’s a lot of great singers and dancers but you have to do what makes you unique. Good luck and make Miami proud!’
Gloria’s impromptu appearance even shocked show boss Simon Cowell.
In a conference call with various journalists, the music mogul said: ‘ had no idea she (Gloria) was going to be there but apparently she did a fantastic job . She gave everyone a lot of support and encouragement. Not a lot of people would bother to do that.”
During the conversation, Simon also confirmed Black Eyed Peas star Fergie had been considered for a spot on the judging panel, only revealing her name had been “put forward”.
Simon recently revealed he is finding it incredibly tough deciding who should join him and confirmed judge L.A. Reid on the panel.
He said: “The truth is that the reason we haven’t announced the panel yet is that nobody can agree. New people keep coming along every week who we want to see.’
Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Simpson and Katy Perry are also believed to be among the stars in line to judge the competitors.

Gloria Estefan Marches With Fellow Cubans In Support Of Ladies In White. Gloria Estefan has led her fellow Cubans in a protest march in Miami’s Little Havana on Thursday. The multiple Grammy Award winner led the march in support of Cuba’s Las Damas de Blanco, or the Ladies in White. The Cuban-born star, along with the thousands of protesters, wore white and marched in silence to show solidarity with the opposition group, which is composed of mothers and wives of 75 dissidents in Cuba. This month marks the seventh anniversary of the Black Spring event, when the government imprisoned journalists, writers, and political rebels they thought were a threat to the revolution. 53 of them are still imprisoned, while one, named Orlando Zapata Tamayo, died after a hunger strike.Estefan said, “This is a big message to all of them that freedom is alive and we care for them, we love them. We want them to be free.” The march followed the peaceful protest by the Las Damas de Blanco that was violently repressed by the Cuban authorities on March 17. While the march in Miami was being held, around 20 members of the group marched again in Havana.
