It seems that everyone is getting in the fashion line action these days and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is no exception. Halliwell has created her own collection of evening dresses.
The line will be sold this year at the store Next. It is a British high-end store, but the dresses themselves are not.
Halliwell says that her dresses will be affordable. She also reassures her fans that the gowns will be classy.
Halliwell is not the first of the Spice Girls to delve into the world of fashion. Victoria Beckham has also created her own line.
The singer – who famously quit the group in 1998 before they all got back together for a world tour in 2007 – thinks they should appear at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 summer games, as it will help put British music back on the map.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “The Spice Girls are part of me and always will be. If it happened and felt natural and right, then I’m always open to singing with the other girls.
“Singing at the Games is a great idea and would be an amazing opportunity – and it’s a sign the Brits are back. This is our time. Everything is circular and now there’s a British pop revival.
“It needs to put itself back on the map on a world stage. This is our opportunity to show that British music, which has led and dominated the world, should do, always.”
While the Spice Girls – also made up of Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton – are one of the acts in the frame to appear at the opening ceremony, indie band Coldplay are said to have been approached to perform an especially written anthem, ‘Welcome Song’.
Other singers considered to appear include Joss Stone, rockers Muse and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn.
The former Spice Girls singer ‘ who has designed a range of swimwear for high street retailer Next ‘ has seen her weight fluctuate over the years but insists she is finally comfortable with herself. She said: ‘ don’t follow strict diets because I don’t believe in them. ”ve yo-yoed like everyone else, but I finally feel comfortable with the way I am. I designed my new bikinis to appeal to every woman, whether they’re a size 8 or 16.’ Geri ‘ who has a four-year-old daughter Bluebell Madonna from a previous relationship – recently claimed the way her shape has fluctuated has made her understand women’s bodies more. Speaking about her swimwear line, she said: “I’ve been all sorts of shapes and sizes to I know the importance of flattering shapes and styles. “There are a lot of big-busted women who want to look sexy, not frumpy, so I looked at the structure of cups that could lift boobs but still feel comfortable. “For a great bust line, the contour at the top edge of a bikini has to be just right. And for those who need a little help, I’ve also designed some bikini tops with padding.”
Her five-year-old child Cruz became inspired when he attended a class with his cousin and, though he is the only boy in the group, has now started taking regular lessons and is said to be making ‘brilliant’ progress.
A source said: ‘Cruz absolutely loves ballet classes ‘ and he’s a complete natural. He went along to a class with Victoria’s sister Louise’s daughter, and was not bothered in the slightest upon discovering he was the only boy in the room.
‘He was brilliant, Cruz has been to every class religiously since, practising his plies around the kitchen table.’
Soccer player David and fashion designer Victoria ‘ who also have older sons Brooklyn, 11, and Romeo, eight, and are currently expecting their fourth child together – are said to be delighted he has found something to be passionate about, and are supporting him all the way.
The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘David and Victoria are really supportive and think it’s fantastic. They’ve both been to see him in action, watching him dance around in his little ‘Power Rangers’ top and shorts.’
It is not the first time Cruz has shown a passion for dance ‘ during the last Spice Girls reunion tour, he joined his mother and her bandmates Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell on stage and showed off his breakdancing skills.
The 38-year-old star ‘ who has four-year-old daughter Bluebell Madonna from a brief relationship with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi ‘ says each day brings it’s own challenges, but she accepts she doesn’t have it as tough as other lone parents.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘Being a single mum is hard ‘ although it depends on what day you ask me. Sometimes it has its challenges but I am wary to say that it is too tough because I feel more privileged than most and I have a mother who is incredibly hands-on.’
The former Spice Girl is in a relationship with aristocrat Henry Beckwith, and she admits more children could be on the cards.
Asked about the possibility of expanding her family, she said: ‘We’ll see. I haven’t ruled it out. I do love being a mum, although I have to say I feel like I am more in my element now that Bluebell is four-and-a-half.
”m enjoying this stage more than the baby part of it because I can interact with Bluebell. It’s great having a daughter.’
Geri remains close with all of the other Spice Girls, especially Victoria Beckham ‘ who has three sons with her husband David Beckham ‘ and is thrilled she is pregnant again.
She said: ‘Victoria would love a girl. Girls are lovely aren’t they? But then I am biased. I am absolutely delighted for Victoria that she is pregnant again. I saw her before for Christmas and I didn’t realise she was pregnant. She kept it so well hidden.’
The Spice Girls musical storyline yet to be revealed. Mel B ‘ who was joined in the group by Mel C, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham ‘ has revealed producer Judy Craymer is currently working on the plot for the show, tentatively titled ‘Viva Forever’, after speaking to all the girls individually. Speaking at the launch of her new computer game ‘Get Fit With Mel B’ in conjunction with Black Bean Games, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ‘The musical is coming out in 2012. We don’t know anything creatively just yet, because they are still in the middle of creating the whole storyline. ‘Judy Craymer took down all of the Spice Girls’ stories and she is going to create the story she wants to go with. So we don’t know what angle she is going for yet.’ The 35-year-old singer also revealed she doesn’t plan to make a cameo in the production. Asked about making an appearance, she said: ‘No. A musical is like, well, it’s about me so I wouldn’t get involved in it on that level.’ Craymer ‘ who produced ‘Mamma Mia!’ ‘ has previously promised the musical will be a very ‘exciting’ show. She said: ‘t is important to me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well represented on stage. ‘ want to create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavour and joyful message.’
Mel B considers the Spice Girls the ‘loves of her life’. The ‘Wannabe’ hitmaker ‘ who is married to Stephen Belafonte and has two daughters, Phoenix, 11, and Angel, three, from previous relationships ‘ has always been closer to her former bandmates Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Mel C than anyone else, even when they have clashed. She said: ”ve had affairs with all the Spice Girls as far as I’m concerned – they’re the loves of my life. ‘We are always in touch with each other. We’re supportive of each other because we’ve known each other a long time. When we were younger, it was five girls who had our periods together, so we screamed at each other, but we all made up afterwards.’ And Mel ‘ known as ‘Scary Spice’ during her time in the girl group – will never rule out another Spice Girls reunion after having so much fun with the group during their original formation between 1995 and 2000 and again at their 2007 concerts. The 35-year-old star said: ‘The first time we did it, it was sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll and the last time it was all nappies and dummies. ‘But I got to travel the world with my four best friends. What could be any better than that?’ The quintet’s music is set to be the focus of a new musical ‘Viva Forever’, and Mel would love to see a film spin-off. Speaking about the musical, the singer – who starred in 1997 movie ‘Spiceworld’ with her bandmates ‘ added: ‘ don’t know yet if it’s going to be based on our real stories or a fabricated story. We’ve talked about 20,000 different storylines, but it’s down to five and we’ll all have to agree. There are no plans for a movie yet, but that would be great.’
The Spice Girls musical will be about a reality TV show. The forthcoming project – titled ‘Viva Forever’ – will use the girl group’s music, but ‘won’t be a tribute or bio show’ of the ‘Wannabe’ hitmakers, instead analysing the fickleness of modern fame in the era of instant celebrity ‘ which the Spice Girls predate. Producer Judy Craymer said: ‘We live in a world dominated by people wanting to be famous. What the Spice Girls did was before those shows became really what they are, and before the world become slightly obsessed by such shows. ”Viva Forever’ will encompass the Spice Girls ethos of friendship, identity and being true to yourself, it won’t be a tribute or bio show, nor will it feature characters with any of the names of the famous five piece.’ The show will be written and produced by Judy ‘ who was behind the stage adaptation of musical ‘Mamma Mia!’ – with comedian Jennifer Saunders. Although it analyses fame, Judy said it would, however, still include more light hearted elements. She added: ‘t has a glimpse of the underbelly of TV talent shows, an invented show, and a little bit of comedy romance.’ The Spice Girls ‘ Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell ‘ all met late last year to discuss the musical and Mel B, 34, has revealed how pleased they are to be working with Judy on the project. She said: ‘All five of us are really super excited. We don’t do anything unless all five agree. “All of us loved ‘Mamma Mia!’. We needed someone who would have a great vision alongside ours.” The musical will reportedly feature 14 of the group’s songs and is expected to open in 2012.
Victoria Beckham gives her friends style advice. The singer-turned-fashion designer has thrilled her pals with how well her new career is going and delights in sharing her knowledge and expert tips. Her former Spice Girls bandmate Emma Bunton ‘ who was recently pictured wearing one of her pal’s creations – revealed: ‘ chose it myself and I love it. Victoria’s dresses always make you feel so stylish. I am so lucky to have a great friend who designs wonderful outfits! She is an amazing designer. ‘t is so difficult to go from music and do something else and there is real pressure, but it’s worked out so brilliantly for her. ‘She has given me her advice before and told me to keep it classic.’ Emma ‘ who was also joined in the group by Geri Halliwell, Mel B and Mel C ‘ also spoke of how much she enjoys spending time with her former bandmates’ children. She added: ‘t was so nice on the last tour. I had just had my son Beau at the time. Mel C hadn’t had Scarlet at that point and she spent a lot of time with Beau. And so when I found out she was pregnant, I was so pleased. We all go, ‘Look at us with our bubbas!’ ‘ However, the quintet don’t pass on parenting advice to one another. Emma added: ‘Do we swap tips? No, we are gossiping girls!’

GERI HALLIWELL has reportedly gone to America to try and sell a film screenplay she has written. The former Spice Girl is has flown to Los Angeles to try and crack the US as a writer. While there, she dined with friend, ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, who was celebrating his 13 Emmy nominations for American Idol. They were joined by comedians Sacha Baron Cohen, Matt Lucas and David Walliams and according to other diners, were in a party mood. A source said: “You could hear their laughter bellowing out all over the restaurant.”
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has turned her hand to film writing – and penned her first movie screenplay. The singer received advice from friends and industry experts on how to put a plot together, and used the Final Draft computer program to write it up. But she is coy about the details – and is keeping the storyline under wraps. She tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “I’ve just written my first screenplay. It is pretty incredible to finish it – the first draft… I’ve got a few friends who are screenwriters and they said to write the premise of it first – like the whole story of it. “Then every story has three acts, whether it’s a screenplay or not. Well, most of them do.” Halliwell has already written a series of children’s books about her fictional character Ugenia Lavender.
GERI HALLIWELL said she is not planning to return to the charts anytime soon. The former Spice Girl said she wants to concentrate on her career as a children’s author instead. Speaking to Red magazine, she said it was time for younger talent to take the reins and step into her shoes. She said: “Everybody has their moment and their time. Let somebody else have a crack at it. There are younger people around now. “I didn’t want to have to stay young in order to sell records. And I didn’t want to have to rely on my looks.” But she added: “I don’t want to say never, though. Who knows? I could do a record when I’m 60.” Halliwell, 36, also told the magazine that she is in talks to turn her Ugenia Lavender books into a cartoon series. She said: “We all have talents and we should use them. It’s nice to be able to contribute to the world. I’m a natural communicator, a storyteller.”
