George Lopez Says He Wants To Run For Mayor Of Los Angeles
funnyman George Lopez reveals that once he is ready to retire from television, his next step would be to run for mayor of Los Angeles. George made the announcement on Good Day LA Thursday morning, and in a more serious tone said, “If Arnold Schwarzenegger can be governor, why can’t George Lopez by mayor of Los Angeles?” “We have O-bama and I’ll be Lo-bama,” he quipped. Although he is sitting comfortably in the midnight slot of his highly rated TBS late night talk show, George says he sees his potential campaign for office well down the road from now. He joked, “Although I don’t believe I’ll pass the background check now, I do intern to run for mayor at some point of Los Angeles in eight years.” Despite recently separating from his wife after allegedly cheating on her with two call girls, George has a relatively clean record but his tarnished reputation as a good guy probably will cost him the female vote, should he run for office. George, who usually pokes fun at his own ethnicity by examining race and ethnic issues during his monologue on his show, says once the time comes for him to start his campaign, California might be seeing a change in its ethnic majority. “At that time, the population of Latinos in California will be 96.4 percent,” he said.

The currently untitled series will Lopez and girlfriend Courtney Mazza as they prepare for their first baby together. From sonograms to the birth and even those rough sleepless nights, VH1 promises to air Lopez’s entire first days as dad. “Our audience has grown up with Mario. They have watched him go from a kid in a fictional high school to a man who has succeeded in many different facets in the TV business. We’re thrilled that we get to be a part of his next transition into fatherhood,” said Jeff Olde, Executive Vice President for Original Programming and Production for VH1. “This new series fits perfectly with VH1′s programming because Mario’s upcoming life changes reflect the same family milestones that many of our viewers are experiencing for the first time,” Olde continued.
