George Lopez Says He Wants To Run For Mayor Of Los Angeles. He knows how to win laughs on his successful late-night talk show, but can he win votes? Actor and
funnyman George Lopez reveals that once he is ready to retire from television, his next step would be to run for mayor of Los Angeles. George made the announcement on Good Day LA Thursday morning, and in a more serious tone said, “If Arnold Schwarzenegger can be governor, why can’t George Lopez by mayor of Los Angeles?” “We have O-bama and I’ll be Lo-bama,” he quipped. Although he is sitting comfortably in the midnight slot of his highly rated TBS late night talk show, George says he sees his potential campaign for office well down the road from now. He joked, “Although I don’t believe I’ll pass the background check now, I do intern to run for mayor at some point of Los Angeles in eight years.” Despite recently separating from his wife after allegedly cheating on her with two call girls, George has a relatively clean record but his tarnished reputation as a good guy probably will cost him the female vote, should he run for office. George, who usually pokes fun at his own ethnicity by examining race and ethnic issues during his monologue on his show, says once the time comes for him to start his campaign, California might be seeing a change in its ethnic majority. “At that time, the population of Latinos in California will be 96.4 percent,” he said.
New VH1 Series About Fatherhood with cookbook, Mario Lopez Mario Lopez hosts “Extra” and “America’s Best Dance Crew” and now he’s adding something a little extra to his resume: fatherhood. With a new baby on the way, VH1 cameras are going to follow the television star to capture it all for a new series. The currently untitled series will Lopez and girlfriend Courtney Mazza as they prepare for their first baby together. From sonograms to the birth and even those rough sleepless nights, VH1 promises to air Lopez’s entire first days as dad. “Our audience has grown up with Mario. They have watched him go from a kid in a fictional high school to a man who has succeeded in many different facets in the TV business. We’re thrilled that we get to be a part of his next transition into fatherhood,” said Jeff Olde, Executive Vice President for Original Programming and Production for VH1. “This new series fits perfectly with VH1′s programming because Mario’s upcoming life changes reflect the same family milestones that many of our viewers are experiencing for the first time,” Olde continued. The first of eight half-hour episodes is set to premiere in the fall. The show is produced by Cris Abrego for 51 Minds Entertainment, which also produced the “Rock of Love,” “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business,” and “The Surreal Life” for the network. Lopez also recently released the cookbook, “Extra Lean,” and appeared as himself in this summer’s comedy “Get Him to the Greek.”
“Iron Man 2″ And “Gossip Girl” Lead Teen Choice Nods. “Iron Man 2″ and “Gossip Girl” have dominated the Teen Choice Awards nominations list with six nods each. Unsurprisingly, “New Moon” also garnered multiple nods, but behind the two with only five nominations. ”Iron Man 2″ star Robert Downey Jr. has nabbed a nod for Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi, while co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson took a nod each for Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi. The movie has been nominated for Choice Movie: Sci-Fi alongside “2012,” “District 9,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” and “Avatar.” “Gossip Girl,” meanwhile, has dominated the TV category, with stars Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick all getting a nod each. “New Moon” pulled off five nominations in the movie line. “Glee” also took five in the TV category. Comedians Aziz Ansari, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Chelsea Handler, and George Lopez are all vying for Choice Comedian. The Teen Choice 2010 Awards will be hosted by Katy Perry on August 9. Fans ages 13 to 19 can vote everyday for their choice starting June 14.
Conan O’Brien Says He Wouldn’t Have Done What Jay Leno Did. Had their roles been reversed, Conan O’Brien said he wouldn’t have done what Jay Leno did to him. In his first interview since he left NBC, the ousted “Tonight Show” host slams Leno for returning to his old post when he already gave it to him. Speaking to CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Conan O’Brien also said that he had to leave the peacock network because he felt they don’t want him there anymore. He said of Leno, “He went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know… I know me, I wouldn’t have done that.” “If I had surrendered The Tonight show and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well and then… six months later. But that’s me, you know. Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things.” And if he were Leno, he would have “done something else, go someplace else.” He continued, “I think this relationship [with NBC] is going to be toxic and we just need to go our separate ways. That’s really how it felt to me… and I started to feel that I’m not sure these people even really want me here.” O’Brien, who is scheduled to host his own late-night show on TBS, will be bumping George Lopez from his current time slot. However, Lopez said that he has not been “Lenoed,” insisting that he is welcoming the slightly younger funnyman with open arms. TBS first opened up their idea of asking O’Brien to join their team to Lopez, telling him that if he didn’t approve of it, they wouldn’t ask O’Brien. But Lopez thought it was a great idea, and when Coco first refused the offer thinking that he didn’t want Lopez to suffer the same fate that he did when NBC tried to move him, Lopez called him to assure him he’s completely on board with the idea. His “60 Minutes” interview is set to air Sunday on CBS.
George Lopez Denies Getting “Lenoed”. George Lopez wants the world to know he is not getting “Lenoed.” The “Lopez Tonight” host told Larry King on his show that he assured upcoming TBS star Conan O’Brien that he is 100 percent alright with the moving of his show to an hour later for him. O’Brien surprised everyone with the news that instead of coming to Fox network as expected, he will be starring in his own show on TBS this November. That means Lopez, who has a late night show on the cable network, will have to make way for Coco and move his “Lopez Tonight” to the midnight timeslot. But while the move appears like what Jay Leno and NBC originally planned for O’Brien when the peacock network told the redhead funnyman to move the “Tonight Show” after Leno’s timeslot, Lopez said that was not the case. The Latino host said on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Tuesday that the whole approach was very classy. TBS president Steve Koonin called him to say that they will approach O’Brien with a deal about the late night time but he also said that if they don’t receive Lopez’s “blessing this deal does not go forward.”Lopez, believing it would be great to have Coco at the 11 p.m. lead-in for his show, agreed. That’s the only time Koonin approached O’Brien with the idea. O’Brien was hesitant to accept the offer because he did not want to do to Lopez what was done to him at NBC. However, Lopez called him to assure him that he is totally good with the idea. He said, “What he was concerned with was that he wasn’t going to do to me what was done to him at NBC. That was his biggest concern.” But “I’m not getting Lenoed,” Lopez assured everybody. “I welcome Conan. I think moving to midnight – hey going to work an hour later it’s a dream come true, and the pay’s the same.” O’Brien is currently on the road for his comedy tour. He will be starting to work for TBS in November.
Tiger Woods And George Lopez Have Locker Room Encounter. Tiger Woods is returning to golf and the scene which includes him coming face to face with sports bigwigs and A-listers, like chronic Woods joke teller George Lopez. Woods and Lopez, who has taken plenty of shots at Woods on his new hit late-night show, had an encounter yesterday during the Champions Locker Room in Augusta. According to [ur source, the encounter was surprisingly pleasant. Woods was in Augusta preparing for the Masters golf tourney, while Lopez was a guest of 2003 champ Mike Weir. Lopez was in the locker room when Woods and his hitting coach Hank Haney walked in. The two shook hands and exchanged hellos, with no mention of the hundreds of shots Lopez has taken at Woods since the on-going drama first took place. Woods would have been smart to have stayed away from any late-night TV for the past few months. Now a meeting with Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, and even Chelsea Handler would prove to be the real test that would show Woods that, after all, it’s just comedy.
