Drake Bell To Star In Live-Action "Fairly OddParents"
Drake Bell To Star In Live-Action “Fairly OddParents” Movie For Nickelodeon. Ten years after the debut of “The Fairly OddParents” on Nickelodeon, the network will premiere a live-action movie based on the hit animated series. “A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!” will combine live-action with CG animation and star none other than Nickelodeon star Drake Bell. While the animated series followed 10-year-old Timmy and his fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda, Timmy is now a 23-year-old, played by Bell, who starred on Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh” for four years. The only problem is, he’s still in the fifth grade and refuses to grow up in order to keep his fairy god parents. When a former crush returns to town all grown up, Timmy finds himself having to decide between following his heart to adulthood or act like a child to keep his fairy godparents around. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines will play live-action Wanda, while Jason Alexander of “Seinfeld” fame will play live-action Cosmo. “Victorious” star Daniella Monet will play Tootie, Timmy’s love interest, and Steven Weber will play a villainous oil tycoon who wants to capture the fairies for their powers. “It’s so much fun to see our animated characters come to life,” said Marjorie Cohn, President, Original Programming and Development, for Nickelodeon. “And who better to bring grown up Timmy Turner to life than Drake Bell, who himself grew up on our air and still remains one of our most popular Nick stars ever.” “I think fans of the series will love seeing the characters in this new way,” said “Fairly OddParents” creator Butch Hartman, who will co-write along with Scott Fellows (“Big Time Rush) and executive produce. “Our mix of live-action and special effects animation will make them look ‘hyper-real’ and our goal is to make this movie as visually exciting as it will be funny.” The movie will be directed by Savage Steve Holland, who directed episodes of “Big Time Rush” and “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” for the network, among others. It’ll premiere in Nickelodeon in 2011.
