Trailer for Carrie Underwood’s big-screen acting debut is released

Carrie Underwood scored her first movie role in the upcoming “Soul Surfer,” and the trailer was just released, showing Underwood looking more down home like in her “Idol” days than the glammed-up country diva we all know (and love).  EW scored the first-look at the film, which tells the well-known story of Bethany Hamilton, the teenage surfer who lost her left arm in shark attack, which derails her promising surfing career before she overcomes her disability and begins surfing again.   Underwood looks believable enough playing a church youth group leader in the upcoming drama, who says stuff like “I don’t know why terrible things happen to us sometimes, but I have to believe that something good will come out of this.” Underwood’s only previous acting credit was a guest appearance on “How I Met Your Mother,” which earned her a People’s Choice Award nomination (that ultimately went to Demi Lovato). “Soul Surfer” also stars AnnaSophia Robb (better known for her Disney fare like “Race to Witch Mountain” and “Bridge to Terebithia”) as Hamilton, while Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid play her parents. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 8th.

Carrie Underwood turns to cleaning when her husband is away at hockey games. The country music star tied the knot with ice hockey player Mike Fisher last July and although she loves married life with him in Ottowa, Canada, the 27-year-old beauty admitted she often gets bored when her spouse is playing in a different city. She said: “It is hard being a hockey wife. They will go off for a few days at a time to play some road games, and I am just like sitting at home twiddling my thumbs thinking, ‘What do I do?’ “I cleaned, and we are moving into a new house, and so I was unpacking all of his stuff. And laundry and dishes.” Carrie was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Song for her track ‘There’s A Place For Us’, eventually losing out to Diane Warren with ‘You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me’ at last night’s (17.01.11) ceremony and even though Mike couldn’t make it to Los Angeles with her, she revealed he was cheering her on from home. She explained to People magazine: “Even though he’s not here with me tonight, I know he’s watching. And just to have somebody that I know is 1,000 per cent cheering me on, it’s really nice to have that kind of support.”
