Born: January 17, 1984 in Dumfries, Scotland. Favoring a naughty schoolboy look that makes him seem even younger than his already tender years (22 when his first major-label album was released), Scottish artist, producer, and remixer Calvin Harris has a similarly youthful and forward-looking approach to his music. Skipping the usual apprenticeship in the clubs or on indie labels, Harris went from posting his own D.I.Y. electroclash music online through MySpace and similar sites to signing with the multinational giant EMI almost in a single step. A couple steps later, he was producing material for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, and Rihanna.
Born on January 17, 1984, in the southern Scotland city of Dumfries, Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999. Two of these songs, “Da Bongos” and “Brighter Days,” were released as a 12″ club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the artist name Stouffer. With that single to his credit, the still teenaged Harris moved from Scotland to London, but as a very small fish in one of the world’s largest and most competitive ponds, Harris floundered; only one of his songs was released during his time in London, “Let Me Know” with vocalist Ayah on the Unabombers’ 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2.
Returning home to Dumfries, Harris began posting homemade solo recordings to his MySpace page. An A&R representative from EMI liked what he heard and signed Harris to the label in 2006. Following a pair of successful singles, Harris released his debut album, I Created Disco, in the summer of 2007. It featured two Top Ten hits (“Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls”), and climbed high in the album charts. Along with his work as a solo artist, including touring in front of a full live band, Harris quickly became an in-demand remixer — working on singles by Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, All Saints, and CSS. He also wrote and produced songs for Kylie Minogue’s 2007 comeback album, and collaborated with Dizzee Rascal on “Dance wiv Me,” which reached number one in the U.K.
“I’m Not Alone,” the first single from his second album, also hit number one upon release in April 2009, as did the album when it appeared that August. That album, Ready for the Weekend, topped the U.K. album chart and peaked at number 12 on Billboard’s U.S. dance/electronic chart. Through 2011, Harris took on production work for Example, Tinchy Stryder, and Rihanna (“We Found Love,” a quadruple-platinum hit in the U.S.), while he also issued two more of his own singles (the Kelis collaboration “Bounce” and “Feel So Close”). Harris’ third solo album, Calvin Harris, was released in June 2012. Calvin Harris – Feel so Close now plying on Tablet TV

Calvin Harris to quit live music. The Scottish dance producer says that he won’t play live anymore because ”m not a singer’. In an interview with Melbourne’s Herald Sun, Harris said that hitting the stage to front a band is ‘terrifying’. Harrris said he came to be a performer almost by accident, ‘the live show had to happen, I had to be the frontman because I was doing the vocals on the songs. It went all right. I spent a few years trying to get it really properly good but it dawned on me it wasn’t going to get much better. I’ve taken the singing thing as far as I can.’ He says he won’t miss it, ”m not a singer. I’m not trained. Taking it onto the stage in front of people was terrifying. I got much, much better at it but I never lost the terror.’ The disco pop producer also said that he’s working on new material, but will probably release individual songs rather than a full album. He’ll be visiting Australia for the second time this year, doing DJ sets at the Stereosonic festival in December.
New Album Details Revealed For Kylie Minogue’s New Album “Aphrodite”. Kylie Minogue is set to become the goddess of pop with the release of her latest album, “Aphrodite.” Now, new album details have emerged about the star’s 11th studio set. Minogue herself co-wrote three tracks on the 12-track disc, including “Illusion” and “Looking For an Angel” with Stuart Price, who is overseeing production on the album. Price previously worked on Madonna’s “Confessions On a Dancefloor” and Seal’s “System” albums. Minogue also co-wrote a track with Calvin Harris, who she worked with for “Heart Beat Rock” from 2007′s “X,” and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters. The track, “Too Much,” was produced by Harris. “Everything Is Beautiful,” another new track on the set, was co-written by Tim Rice-Oxley of Keane. Also featured on the album is the Nerina Pallot-penned “Better Than Today,” which Kylie debuted on her North American tour last year. The first single, “All The Lovers,” is already impacting radio overseas. The lush dance track was produced by Jim Eliot and mixed by Stuart Price. “The single was one of the last tracks to be written for the album. As I was recording it, I knew that ‘All the Lovers’ had to be the first single – it sums up the euphoria of the album perfectly,” she said about her new track. “Aphrodite” is Minogue’s first album since 2007′s “X,” which yielded the dance hits “Wow,” “In My Arms,” and “The One.”

Paolo Nutini is announced as the fifth headliner at this summer’s Eden Sessions. The soulful singer-songwriter will play the Eden stage on Tuesday July 13, joining Jack Johnson (June 26 – sold out), Mika (June 27), Doves and Mumford & Sons (July 2 – sold out) and Calvin Harris and Audio Bullys (July 3) on a blockbuster bill. Paolo launched his career with 2006 quadruple-platinum debut These Streets, including the top-ten single Last Request. He followed it up with last year’s second long-player Sunny Side Up. That album went straight to number one in the UK album charts and returned to the top on two separate occasions. Hailing from Paisley in Scotland, Paolo has been singing and working in the music industry since leaving school at 16, including stints as a roadie and studio engineer. As a result, he has shown an understanding of live performance that belies his age and Atlantic Records recognised his potential early on and signed him just after his 18th birthday in 2005. Paolo was nominated in two categories in this year’s BRITs – British Male Solo Artist and British Album for Sunny Side Up – and has rubbed shoulders will rock royalty, supporting Led Zeppelin at their O2 comeback show and sharing a stage with the Rolling Stones at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2007. Tjarko Wieringa, Eden Sessions Creative Director, said: “We’re proud to announce Paolo’s appearance at this year’s Eden Sessions – another fantastic coup! His laid-back brand of motown-tinged folk rock will be a perfect match for Eden’s beautiful surroundings. “With five announcements behind us, this year’s Sessions are promising to be our best yet. We have some of best, most high-profile artists in the world already on the bill and there will be more exciting announcements to come.” The Sessions are famed not only for bringing top acts to Cornwall but also for their festival feel, with extra bands and entertainers playing around the site in the run-up to the main event. Massage and alternative therapies will also be showcased around Eden on the day of each Session. The 2010 Sessions will be the ninth season of summer gigs at the Eden Project. Performers in previous years include Oasis, Kasabian, Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend, Paul Weller, Hot Chip, Muse, Editors, Snow Patrol, Basement Jaxx, Amy Winehouse, Moby, PJ Harvey and The Verve.
