The reigning Miss Universe has designs on the Hindi Film Industry, popularly known as the Bollywood, and she has expressed, in no uncertain terms, that she was willing to consider good offers from the land of Masala movies.
Miss Universe Jimena Navarrete, who is currently in India on a tour to promote a noble cause, has said, “Till now I haven’t been offered any roles but would love to work in Hindi films. I have seen Indian actors, they all are very handsome. I don’t know much Hindi and can only say ‘Namaste’ but I am willing to learn it.” The Mexican beauty could well take a lesson or two from her compatriot, Barbara Mori, who made her Hindi film debut last year in February with “Kites.” Currently on a 10-day trip, Jimena has said that she is a big fan of Salman Khan, whom she met during this trip, organized as part of a campaign to celebrate the girl child. About Salman Khan, she said, “I’ve heard so much about Salman. I really want to see some of his films, too.” In an attempt to establish her seriousness about Bollywood, Jimena also said that she was ready to sing as well as dance just like the Indian actors and was hoping someone would make her an offer. In India to promote designer Sanjana Jon’s “Celebrate the Girl Child” campaign, Jimena also visited a shrine near Mumbai besides taking part in a number of charity commitments.
Aishwarya Turns 37, Remains On Top Of Her Game. She is the one with the beautiful face who continues to flourish in both Bollywood and Hollywood. As she readies for another run at the box office with two big-budget movies lined up, former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai also prepares to celebrate her 37th birthday on Tuesday. One of the most beautiful leading ladies in the Hindi film industry, Rai has come a long way since being crowned Miss World in 1994 and beginning her film career with a lesser-known but critically-acclaimed film, “Iruvar.” She is counted among the most successful actors of her generation. Her face still launches a number of brands every year and her appearances at Cannes year-after-year are as talked about as those of Eva Longoria and Kate Winslet. However, the most significant aspect of her 13-year-long film career remains her metamorphosis into being a “director’s delight.”Her upcoming films, “Guzaarish” with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and “Action Replayy” with Vipul Shah, are totally opposite to each other in terms of the characters she is playing. In the first, she plays a nurse to a paraplegic Hrithik Roshan, a pivotal role when Hrithik begs for mercy killing. In the second, she plays an over-the-top character of a typical Hindi film heroine, who shakes a leg or two and even dons colorful saris while romancing Akshay Kumar in the style of the 1970s. She is a much-reckoned artiste today, who is praised not only for her professional attitude but also for her complete surrender to her directors. However, despite being married into the first family of Hindi filmdom, the Bachchans, led by her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, and having achieved international fame, Aishwarya remains as grounded as ever. Subhash Ghai, who worked with her in 1999 success “Taal,” says that she will still be in the reckoning even 10 years from now. Bhansali calls her the “timeless beauty” and says, quite emphatically, that “she understands me.” Her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, leaves no stone unturned in heaping praise on wife dearie, as he says, “I feel great about Aishwarya’s achievements, I am very proud of her,” he told The Hindu newspaper. “Whatever adulation she has got, she truly deserves it. I’m happy that she broke the notion that women can’t work after marriage.” However, in comparison to her rocking career and life, Aishwarya’s birthday plans remains simple. She told the Times of India, “Time with family is celebration for me, and it’s more than enough.”
Bollywood’s Gutsy Actor Turns Singer In Hollywood. She is known for her gutsy moves both onscreen and off, but now Bollywood actor Mallika Sherawat will be holding a microphone for her singing debut in the Hollywood project ‘Hisss.’ The music for the film has been composed by Beatles’ legend John Lennon’s son Julian Lennon. Sherawat, who spent a year in Los Angeles, shooting for the film and her other assignments, landed in Mumbai recently and announced that she had recorded the song in Los Angeles and it would be released during the film promos, which are to go on air soon. The film also has another song in Mallika’s voice, which has been recorded by German music director Alexander Von Bubenheim, who has, incidentally, also recorded the background music for the film. The film, directed by Jennifer Lynch, tells the story of the legend of Naga and revenge of a snake woman, whose partner is captured by an American hunter. The film would be released in October this year
Shah Rukh, Aamir ‘Patch Up’, Dine Together In London. The buzz is that two of Bollywood’s favorite personalities — Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have buried the hatchet and are ‘friends’ again. The two, who have had some ugly spats in the past, were recently seen dining in an up-market Japanese restaurant Hakkasan Restaurant in London with celebrated filmmaker, Karan Johar. Shah Rukh was accompanied by wife, Gauri Khan. Aamir is reportedly in London for the promotion of his latest movie ‘ Peepli Live’, from where he will fly to Los Angeles and New York. Shah Rukh is busy shooting his film ‘RA One’ with Kareena Kapoor. Sources say, Aamir had invited both Shah Rukh and Karan for a private screening of his movie. But SRK, as Shah Rukh is fondly called in Bollywood circles, could not make it for the private screening and later joined his wife, Karan and Aamir for dinner. A close friend told some gossip magazines in London that, “There were some jokes being cracked over which SRK and Aamir were laughing a lot. Gauri seemed to enjoy herself watching these guys cracking up.”

Australian Actress Emma Brown Comes Calling To Bollywood. Australian actress Emma Brown Garrett has Bollywood dreams in her eyes as she prepares to follow in the footsteps of foreign beauties like Barbara Mori, Alice Patten and Sarah Thomson and make the Indian film industry her next stop. Although, she already made her film debut in India with a Bengali language film, “Shukno Lanka,” it is the Hindi film industry that she is interested in conquering. Brown is waiting for her first Hindi movie, “Dum Maro Dum” to be released. In this movie, she works opposite Abhishek Bachchan, son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. Brown’s next release, in all probability, will be “Yamla Pagla Deewana,” in which she is paired opposite action hero Sunny Deol. She is hopeful of getting good roles in Bollywood, where most of heroines are cast just to add to the glamour quotient of the film. Brown shifted to Mumbai about two and a half years ago with her husband, who runs a financial business. That shows that she is here to stay, unlike other foreign actors who usually disappear after working in just one movie. Even her transition from the Bengali language cinema, known as Tollywood, to mainstream Indian cinema has been as eventful as her shift from Australia to India.
Russell Crowe Wants To Sing, Shake A Leg Bollywood Style. However, he is clear that the movie, would not be like the other similar ventures in the past, with a Hollywood storyline, set in India. He wants a true-blue Bollywood movie, with the song and dance intact. Crowe, while talking to a private news channel, NDTV, said, “I don’t mean a typical Hollywood film that happens to be set in India, but a Bollywood film. The script would have to be right, and I’d have to understand completely what I was doing. But I will have a go.” And what’s more, Crowe is all game for singing and shaking a leg on the screen, as he further said, “I can do my own singing and I can dance a little bit. I’m in no hurry. But if something good comes my way, I will take it.”
