Bobby Gillespie talks of turning things down.
Bobby Gillespie turns up to concerts at the last minute because he worries about getting too drunk to perform.
The singer’s band Primal Scream were previously famed for their wild ways and though they have curbed their partying lifestyle, the singer admits he takes precautions to minimise temptation.
He said: “I get in as late as possible and get out as soon as I leave the stage. It’s women and children first, every man for himself.
“I don’t like the risk of getting too trashed to play. It’s nearly happened before. We headlined the first T in the Park festival in Scotland. I had to be carried onstage I was so hammered.”
The ‘Rocks’ hitmaker also admitted his group’s excesses led to their worst-ever performance.
He told Q magazine: “The worst show we did was probably a German festival called Aachen in 1994.
“Our guitarist Robert Young refused to get on the plane from Athens so we did the gig without him and it was terrible. It was a low point, but that’s drug addiction.”

Primal Scream reveal that Kylie Minogue wanted to work with them. The Australian singer ‘ who has previously collaborated with artists including Nick Cave and Manic Street Preachers ‘ approached the ‘Loaded’ hitmakers to write a track for her, but the group were having too many problems to accept. Frontman Bobby Gillespie revealed: ‘We met her twice ‘ at a photoshoot and then she came to a gig in Australia. She was lovely. ‘ think she was looking for us to write a song for her and make a record with her. But we were having problems even writing songs for ourselves at that point. So it never happened.’ Primal Scream ‘ who were previously famed for their drink and drug-fuelled partying ‘ recently marked 25 years since the release of their first single ‘All Fall Down’ but the group are surprised their career has lasted so long. Asked if he ever expected the group to be around 25 years, 48-year-old Bobby admitted to Q magazine: ‘ didn’t think I’d be alive then. I probably didn’t want to be alive. Seriously. ‘So the answer is no. But I always knew we were good. It was always a serious thing. It wasn’t like a part-time thing before you go back to doing a real job.

Bobby Gillespie hopes Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye is a huge success
Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie hopes Liam Gallagher’s new band Beady Eye is a huge success. The singer is yet to hear the band’s first track ‘Bring The Light’ but insists he is a big fan of the ‘Songbird’ singer and is confident he will make a rocking album with his bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, who all also performed with Oasis. He said: ‘ love Liam and I love Noel and I wish them both the best of luck in their new musical explorations. I don’t understand measuring people against what they did formerly. Either it rocks or it doesn’t rock. I hope it’s successful for Liam.’ The Manchester rocker decided to form his band after his brother Noel Gallagher quit the group in August 2009 following a pre-concert bust-up. Though Bobby hasn’t heard Beady Eye’s new material yet, he will have the opportunity to see them as the group have announced their first live dates for March next year. However, Gem has insisted fans won’t hear songs from their old band as they’re all focusing on the new group. He said: “We’re just buzzing about this band and looking forward to the album coming out and getting out on the road. And there’ll be no Oasis songs, either, if you were going to ask.”
