Hey there! is your celebrity is using Twitter?

Posted in: Trends by newsdesk on June 22, 2024

With the innermost thoughts of celebrities now just a mouse click away, find out who is riveting and who is just plain irrelevant. Although MySpace welcomes thousands of eager bloggers daily, a certain new user made international news when he signed on to the social networking site last December. At 92, actor Kirk Douglas officially became the oldest celebrity online blogger. He told Britain’s Daily Mail: “I don’t have to do it, I don’t make money. It’s something that gives me personal satisfaction … and I enjoy the opportunity to talk to so many people much younger than I am.” As gramps churns out weekly online opinion pieces, S wonders if there’s anyone left in Hollywood who isn’t blogging? Unknowns, up-and-comers, tweens, teens and Tinseltown royalty are jumping on the blogging bandwagon. Whether they’re tweeting (entering status updates onto the networking site Twitter.com), MySpacing (updating personal videos, photos and posts at MySpace.com) or starting from scratch with their own page, celebrities are sharing a whole lot more than they did in the past. But who are we most intrigued by in the wide world of cyber blabbering? Here we present our verdict who lets the most slip, who we can’t get enough of and who, quite frankly, really should just shut up. Lily Allen: The hard-core tweeter. The saucy little singer tweets everything from what she’s about to scoff down for lunch to scrappy slurs about well-known celebrities like Amy Winehouse (search “lilyroseallen” to get the juice). Allen told Rove in March that she updates her Twitter status from her BlackBerry “like, 10 times a day”. The cheeky brunette receives Twitter messages from celebrities including Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson and even Lohan’s notoriously nosy father, Michael. Recent tweets include: “I’ve just been on Wikipedia and still can’t figure it out. What is a mormon?”; “So fucking hot, might go for a steam room … “; and “Perez fuck you, I did make it the whole way through the tour and I haven’t seen a bad review. Suck it.” Other tweeters Ashton Kutcher (search “aplusk”) tweets at about the same rate as Allen, renowned for uploading snaps like the sneaky shot of wife Demi Moore in a bikini. Rove (search “Rove1974″) has jumped on the bandwagon and actors Dane Cook and Seth Rogen drop a daily line via “danecook” and “SethRogen”. Taylor Swift: The queen of the teens Out of the fairy-floss fizz of young artists, country-pop singer Swift does the best job of keeping her fans in the know with detailed accounts of what she’s up to. Recent updates include: “The most obnoxious sound is the hotel phone RINGINGGGGGG at 5.30am and it’s all the way across the bedside table, so you can’t reach it with your sleepy, fumbling attempts atpicking it up and slamming it back down … let’s talk about today. I just read my daily horoscope, which said: ‘Although you’ll be only in contact with adults today, expect a lot of childishness.’ I’m doing press interviews all day.” See taylorswift.com. Ad Feedback Other teen bloggers Miley Cyrus updates herTwitter account several times a day (search “mileycyrus”) and posts videos on herwebsite, mileycyrus.com. Also see the Jonas Brothers at jonasbrothers.com or on Twitter (”Jonasbrothers”). Gwyneth Paltrow: The entrepreneurial blogger Gwynnie has taken celebrity blogging to a whole new level by launching her own online blogging site, GOOP.com. Paltrow says the blog allows her to “share recipes, my personal travel notes, the advice that I get and follow and so much more” and even sends out a newsletter every so often. It’s a clever venture for the mother of two, who is surprisingly candid when speaking about her children, mother and her own childhood. Paltrow also blogs about her favourite cities, fashion accessories, restaurants, films, books and art exhibitions. Any voyeur’s dream, really. Other brainy bloggers Perez Hilton continues his monopoly on the online gossip scene. The chubby reporter counts Christina Aguilera and Kim Kardashian among his besties and is considered a celebrity. See perezhilton.com. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden: The headline hogs. The superstar couple are renowned for revealing personal news via their blog sites, mainly myspace.com/richiemadden, which features links to their individual blogs. Richie’s recent pregnancy came to light after Madden posted the blog entitled “Better than winning an OSCAR!” on his Good Charlotte band website in February. Thepair’s first arrival, Harlow, was announced via their blog less than five days after Richie gave birth to the little girl. The couple are also keen photo uploaders you can find a ton of exclusive shots online (pictured), some often snatched up and reprinted by the gossiprags. Other hogs The Travoltas announced the arrival of The Jett Travolta Foundation online at travolta.com, while Adam Sandler confirmed the arrival of his second child via his blog site, adamsandler.com. Britney Spears: The shameless spruiker The queen of the trailer park divides her attention between several blogging sites but no matter which one you head to, prepare for a bombardment. New albums, tours, merchandise, DVDs, television spots, in-store appearances we try but we can barely pull anything juicy out of any of her blogs. See britneyspears.com/blog and have a go yourself. The closest you’ll get to any real action is by logging on to Spears’s Twitter (search “britneyspears”). Every once in a while, she gets a little personal. Her February 13 tweet was particularly gripping: “Spending a rainy day with my boys watching movies. They are really into Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar 2. <3 Britney.” . Other spruikers Kanye West plugs his favourite designers and friends’ video clips at kanyeuniversecity.com/blog. Mischa Barton has wardrobe giveaways and clips at mischabarton.celebuzz.com. John Mayer: The ‘dear diary’ blogger. Mayer posts, uploads, links and streams just about everything under the sun at johnmayer.com/blog, such as photographs of the cakes he likes to bake. Our favourites are the drawn-out rants about what mood he’s in or how the media meddles with his life. The self-indulgent singer-songwriter-heartbreaker has spread his blogging wings to Twitter (Jennifer Aniston reportedly ended her relationship with Mayer due to his addiction to tweeting), however the real Mayer can only be discovered at his blog site. He told his readers in November: “I just think sometimes in the middle of all the gossip madness you just need to hear my voice to let you know that I’m still here. So here I am.” Thank the Lord. Other diary bloggers If you’ve got a large chunk of time on your hands, funny man Alec Baldwin scribes lengthy political opinion pieces for the popular US blog space, The Huffington Post. Check it out at huffing tonpost .com/alec- baldwin. Paris Hilton: The dedicated MySpacer If reading pages of Paris Hilton’s inner monologue sounds appealing, log on to myspace.com/parishilton for a squiz at her page. The party princess has a fondness for the blogger section and loves spilling the beans on her daily shenanigans. A recent post about being assaulted in a nightclub earlier this year went like this: ” … his bodyguard (don’t ask me why he has a bodyguard, like he really needs one. Ha) pushed me really hard, that’s when my boyfriend, like my knight in shining armour, stepped in and told the guy to keep his hands off of me.” Drivel of a similar variety, along with every air-brushed photograph, movie trailer and video footage seemingly ever taken of her(or including her) can be found just a click away. Other MySpacers Zach Braff self-tracks his every movement on MySpace. We love how he posts exclusive Scrubs sneak peeks online. See myspace.com/zachbraff. Lindsay Lohan and Missy Higgins also keep an extremely close eye on their pages search MySpace for their individual URLs. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz: The full-blown addict The hipper of the Simpson sisters is addicted to pouring her heart out online. She updates her Twitter on the hour, whenever she has internet access (search “ashsimpsonwentz”), posting cutesy self-portraits and snaps with her new bub, Bronx. She also keeps her MySpace page and personal web page in tip-top shape, scrawling interesting opinion spiels. We especially liked her late-January post in which she defended older sister, Jessica: “I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.” Simpson-Wentz also has a Facebook page, although she gets help from her publicists in maintaining it. Other addicts Russell Brand loves opening up about his cheeky antics. See Twitter (search “rustyrockets”) and russellbrand.tv.
