Paris Hilton’s TV Ad For Brazilian Beer Brand Sparks Complaints. Paris Hilton’s new TV ad for a beer product is under fire in Brazil for being too “sensual.” The Devassa beer ad features a clothed Paris, but the country still thinks it “devalues women, particularly blondes”. The 29-year-old hotel heiress wasn’t wearing anything scandalous by today’s standards. In the one-minute ad, Hilton can be seen in a little black dress dancing provocatively and holding a can of beer in her apartment room while onlookers get mesmerized. Private watchdog agency Conar spokesman Eduardo Corrreia has been quoted by eonline.com as saying, “The problem with the ad isn’t a lack of clothing, but its sensual nature. A woman in a bikini on a beach isn’t necessarily sensual; it depends on the context.” Conar doesn’t have the authority to take it off the air, but it has launched three investigations into the ad. The first is spurred by consumer complaint. It says that the ad violates the Brazilian beer ad code that says “advertising models won’t be treated as sex objects.” Another complaint asks whether Hilton’s promotion on the beer brand’s website encourages excessive alcohol consumption. And the third, according to New York Daily News, was launched at the request of Brazil’s Secretariat for Women’s Affairs, which alleges that the content on the Devassa website and Hilton’s pictures devalue women. The beer is required to respond to the complaints within 10 days.
