KDTN Radio One Expands Into Artist Interviews With “Music In Review” Talk Radio Format

SDC OmniMedia Groups has expanded its radio reach into the talk radio format by adding KDTN BlogTalk Radio One to its lineup of stations. KDTN Radio One still plays music from artists all over the world and introduces new and exciting talents far beyond the borders of the USA. Several years ago, Kenny Smith, program Director for KDTN Radio One Networks decided to add a blog to the radio station as a companion site, which has been so successful, that it has spawn two Blog magazines sites running at the same time.  Several months ago, Smith was an invited guest host for a radio show on BlogTalk Radio and this just put another twist into the local artist’s promotions hat. Smith’s new talk radio segments includes his new “Music In Review” show on the companion KDTN Radio One station.  At present eight shows have been up and running on the new show, with Toni Ventura’s “The Frankie Lymon Story”, Rosemarie Ashley’s ‘tude vox Ro’ interviews, the Vinyl Knights series featuring Lee Rogers Craton, and Riley Weston’s “20 Questions” segment to be aired in the future.  Talk radio it seems was a thing of the past, and the interview was a place to get “ambushed”, that most artists even today stay away from it.  But Talk radio is making a comeback in a big way, and the microphone meeting the artist “halfway” is a new start for some artists to communicate with their audience and new buyers. It’s always been what’s in the “grooves” that count, but today, it’s what on the iPod, and just plain talk with new artists have gained them so many more fans and persons who appreicate their talents and what the artists stand for.  To get you or your artist up and running for an radio interview, it’s very simple. Just follow the suggestions below. With a microphone and a tape recorder, remember those…you can do a self interview. Remember to Ask the question first in the microphone, then answer the
question. This will give your DJ and/or your radio interviewer a chance to separate your questions from the anwsers and make it easy to edit them into their live shows. Upon recording your interviews, keep your answers down to three (3) minutes each, unless you get carried away.

Keep you answers positive and upbeat.

Stay away from sex, politics and religion, because this could be a career killer.

After recording your interview on a cassette tape, digital recorder or even your computer, saves these files to an mp3 format which will make it easy to transport and share with other DJ’s and media outlets. Remember these are the “20 Questions” format that are “cookie-cutters’ and that are proven in general interview situations.

1. Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?

2. If you could record a duet with any music star, who would it be?

3. If you could tour with all women, which artists or bands of any genre would you like to go on the road with you?

4. When you are not touring, what do you like to do for fun?

5. What did you remember the most about growing up as a kid?

6. Any plans to do a cover song or two oin your upcoming album?

7. I love to sing but have a big problem with stage fright. Do you have any advice for me to conquer this problem?

8. How has your schooling experience helped or hindered your musical development?

10. Where did you attend College? Do you plan on attending college?

11. About your outfits. Where do you shop?

12. I know you wear this type of clothing on stage a lot, so I was wondering if you would ever want to have your own clothing line.

13. What kind of TV shows and movies do you like to watch?

14. Is the song “_________” about you or someone you know?

15. What do you do for inspiration when you sit down to write a song and it seems that nothing wants to come out?

16. Do you also want to write songs for other artists?

17. How do you manage to stay away from all the bad things superstars seem to be getting pulled into these days?

18. If you were driving cross-country and could only bring one CD, what would it be?

19. From performing in front of thousands of fans to daily interviews and signing autographs, how do you keep up your energy?

20. Do you have any pets?

After you have finished, you may snail mail your interview to KDTN Blogtalk Radio Networks, 1880 Circle Lane, Suite 25, Limon, CO 80828-9114, for syndicated broadcasting and airing on the D-Town Digital Distribution Network system. If we do not have your music, please include your CD. The majority of the radio interviews are 15 minutes long and the show is archived for repeated performances. This is the interview in a can segment, put together from CMT and everyone else that has ever been interviewed. You can certainly make up your own questions and answers. This is just the “cookie-cutter” generic DJ radio interview questions above. Have fun with them and keep them to the “20 Questions” format – it has proven to be just right.
