Radio Mirchi : The Radio Station with Difference
Posted in: Radio by newsdesk on June 19, 2024
The original avatar of Radio Mirchi was Times FM. Radio Mirchi began operation in 1993 in Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh . Until 1993, All India Radio or AIR, a government undertaking, was the only radio broadcaster in India. The government then took the initiative to privatize the radio broadcasting sector. It sold airtime blocks on its FM channels in Indore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata ,Vizag and Goa to private operators, who developed their own program content. The Times Group operated its brand, Times FM, till June 1998. After that, the government decided not to renew contracts given to private operators. In 2000, when the Government formally announced auction of 108 FM frequencies across 40 cities, Entertainment Network (India) Limited (Radio Mirchi) won the largest number of licenses, thereby acquiring a national footprint, and becoming the only commercial FM broadcaster present in all 4 Metros, with an exclusive presence in 7 cities. In January 2006, Radio Mirchi bagged 25 frequencies in the second wave of licences that were issued by the Government of India. This pushes the Radio Mirchi presence in 32 centers. In the first wave of launches, Indore was the first city in india having grade of first private radio channel.Times decided to start radio channel to address the mass audience as advertisers can be attracted by showing a low cost per thousand. Radio Mirchi was earlier available in the seven cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Indore and Ahmedabad, now it is also available in key markets of Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Patna & Jalandhar therby taking the tally to 12 stations across India. It’s the largest private FM Radio operator in the country in terms of number of operational stations and revenue. Though Radio Mirchi FM radio stations are located in diverse regions in India it’s been successful in attracting local audiences in each of these markets. This is largely due to a superior understanding of audience preferences, which enables it to provide content customized to the taste, language and culture of the local audience. A track record of developing creative and innovative content or programming formats has helped Radio Mirchi expand and retain its audience and advertisers. For example, it has exclusively released the music for Hindi films such as ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Salaam Namaste’, ‘Mangal Pandey’ where it enjoyed exclusive rights for FM broadcasting of the music of these films for around two weeks. “Our wide and national footprint enables our advertisers to reach the largest number of listeners among private operators in high income cities and adjoining areas. Not only did it win millions of listeners through its innovative programming and marketing initiatives, Radio Mirchi also won awards for its successful brand building,” A. P. Parigi , Managing Director and CEO , Radio Mirchi said.
The 1983 - Kismat Khol De’ Contest won the Gold medal for Best Activity generating Brand Loyalty at the Promotion Marketing Awards of Asia - 2004, and the Bronze medal for Best Activity generating Brand Awareness and Trial recruitment at the Promotion Marketing Awards of Asia - 2004.
Future plans also include exploring opportunities to become FM radio broadcasters or content providers in international markets at an appropriate time, either directly or through strategic partnerships or inorganic initiatives.
Snollygoster Definition - what is a Snollygoster!
Posted in: Coffee Talk, Music News by newsdesk on June 19, 2024
TV word of the day - “Snollygoster”. What is the definition of Snollygoster? The word’s origin is unknown, but developed as slang in the 1800s, between roughly 1855 and 1860, states Dictionary.com. It defines Snollygoster as “a clever, unscrupulous person.” The Free Dictionary however believes the word Snollygoster could have developed from “snallygaster”, which is a “mythical beast said to prey on poultry and children”. Or Snollygoster could have come from “Pennsylvania Dutch schnelle geeschter” that derives as follows: “Middle High German snl, quick (from Old High German) + Middle High German geist, spirit (from Old High German).”
Free Dictionary defines Snollygoster today as often used to describe a political figure: “One, especially a politician, who is guided by personal advantage rather than by consistent, respectable principles.”
Witch politician is an Snollygoster, what do you think?
Lindsay Lohan off the hook in Scotland Yard’s missing Elle jewels case
Posted in: Coffee Talk by newsdesk on June 19, 2024
Lindsay Lohan’s luck seems to be improving. Elle magazine isn’t holding the starlet responsible for the $500,000 worth of Dior jewelry that went missing during a June 6 photo shoot in London. Said the fashion glossy’s spokesperson: “Elle has no reason to believe that Lindsay Lohan was in any way responsible and has no further comment to make.” The starlet herself is irate at having been blamed for the heist. “Lindsay thinks it’s a ridiculous story and is happy that Elle is standing behind her,” says a pal, “but she’s really sick of getting blamed for everything bad that happens.”

And the winner is….the Greek boy
Posted in: Coffee Talk by newsdesk on June 19, 2024
The PR demolition of Katie Price aka Jordan by the Pete Andre team has been overwhelming and complete. Only today Katie Price aka Jordan is quoted in The Sun in an “exclusive” as “flaunting her boobs” and is quoted as saying “I need a shag, its driving me mad”. The battle to win over public opinion in the divorce proceedings between Jordan and Pete Andre has shown how rapidly a celebrity can rise and fall. Claire Powell the principle of CAN Associates who previously acted for both Jordan and Pete Andre, now acting for Pete Andre; according to most media commentators has managed the press so effectively that her client Pete Andre is perceived to be the overwhelming winner in the current press war. The Sun and the other red tops have allocated reporters to cover the divorce between the warring celebs, with most of the coverage being spun in favour of the Greek-Cypriot. The Sun report by Alex West on Jordan: “Last night the model (Jordan) was preparing for another evening out. She was expected to be a VIP guest at Pacha clubs Fuck me I’m Famous”. The Sun report The Sun report by Alex West on Pete Andre: “Peter is on holiday with children Junior, four, and Princess Tiaamii one and Jordan’s son Harvey seven”. Pete Andre is pictured with the children playing happily whilst Jordan is shown with her boobs out on a boat. The Sun again plunged the knife into the already shattered image of Jordan with Alex West in a report on 18/6/09: “Boozed up Jordan flashed her knickers and danced on a table during a 12 hour Ibiza drinks bender”. On Pete Andre in the same report which highlighted how the legal team for Andre had laid down strict guidelines said: “And he’s been told to be courteous when dealing with his estranged wife so she can’t accuse him of being unreasonable”. Speculation is now building around the next step for Pete Andre who is now being touted for endorsements and various lucrative commercial deals given his positive press coverage, with his recent visit to Macau in China one example of his rising currency.
